We may not know it, but fractals, like the air we breathe, are all around us. Their irregular, repeating shapes are found in cloud formations and tree limbs, in stalks of broccoli and craggy mountain ranges, even in the rhythm of the human heart. In this documentary film, NOVA takes viewers on a fascinating quest with a group of maverick mathematicians determined to decipher the rules that govern fractal geometry.

For centuries, fractal-like irregular shapes were considered beyond the boundaries of mathematical understanding. Now, mathematicians have finally begun mapping this uncharted territory. Their remarkable findings are deepening our understanding of nature and stimulating a new wave of scientific, medical, and artistic innovation stretching from the ecology of the rain forest to fashion design. The documentary highlights a host of filmmakers, fashion designers, physicians, and researchers who are using fractal geometry to innovate and inspire.

Produced and directed by Emmy and Peabody Award winning filmmakers Michael Schwarz and Bill Jersey, the documentary weaves cutting edge research from the front lines of science into a compelling mathematical detective story. The film introduces a number of distinguished individuals who have used fractal geometry to transform their fields, like Loren Carpenter, who created the first completely computer-generated sequence in a movie.

(You can also watch this documentary in shorter parts on YouTube here.)

In the late 1970s, Carpenter stumbled across the work of a little-known mathematician, Benoit Mandelbrot, who coined the word "fractal," from the Latin word fractus, meaning irregular or broken up. Based on Mandelbrot's mathematical descriptions of fractals in nature, Carpenter was able to create detailed computer simulations of organic forms in a way that had never before been possible. The groundbreaking computer generated sequence Carpenter produced in 1980 for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan marked a milestone in movie history, and owed its creation to fractal geometry.

It took a maverick with a hard-won aversion to authority to stand up to the conventional wisdom that nature stood outside the bounds of mathematics. Through interviews and personal artifacts, Mandelbrot shares the story of his struggle to survive as a Jewish teenager in Nazi-occupied France, his journey to America, and his lifelong fascination with a corps of European mathematicians whose explorations of the so called "mathematical monsters" laid the groundwork for his own discoveries. [Read an interview with Mandelbrot, illustrated with stunning fractal images.]

Filmmaker Bill Jersey believes Mandelbrot's approach to fractals might ultimately become as significant as the cracking of the genetic code. "As fractals continue to revolutionize the way scientists develop theories and conduct research, the inevitable results will be innovations that dramatically change health care, environmental policy, design, and technology," Jersey says.

In 1980, Mandelbrot published a mesmerizing image known as the Mandelbrot set. (To explore the set, go to A Sense of Scale.) The intricate, mysterious beauty of this image, which was generated by a single mathematical function, won him acclaim from an unexpected quarter in the world of popular culture. But fractals are more than pretty pictures. Almost all living things distribute nutrients through their bodies via branching networks, such as systems of blood vessels, that obey the rules of fractal geometry.

In Toronto, physicist Peter Burns is making a mathematical model of blood vessels to find ways to diagnose cancer earlier than is now possible. In Boston, cardiologist Ary Goldberger has discovered that, contrary to centuries of belief, a healthy human heartbeat does not have an even pattern like a metronome but rather a jagged, variable fractal pattern. This discovery that may help doctors diagnose cardiac disease before damage is done.

"This film is about looking at the world around us in a completely different way," says producer Michael Schwarz. "If you pay attention, you can see that fractals appear throughout nature. But until Benoit Mandelbrot came along, no one really understood what was there all along."

If ancient aliens visited Earth in the remote past, could they have given us advanced technology, passed down through history?

And could this technology have helped the Third Reich build mysterious weapons and crafts far beyond the limits of 20th century science?

During World War II, there were reports that the Germans built an operational flying saucer, known as the Hanebu, which was said to use mythical technology found in ancient Indian texts.

Another craft was rumored to have been constructed with the help of psychics and mediums who claimed to have received detailed blueprints from extraterrestrial beings. Is it possible Hitler's quest for world domination was aided and abetted by ancient extraterrestrial technology that was rediscovered? And could the allegedly rebuilt alien devices developed in Germany have played a role in America's ability to land a man on the moon?

The Battle of Los Angeles is a documentary film by Jose Escamilla about what he calls, the single most heavily documented UFO Case in the history of UFOs.

On February 25, 1942, only eleven weeks after the unforgettable attack on Pearl Harbor, an unidentified aircraft appeared in the sky above Culver City, California. Just before 2:30 a.m., military personnel launched an assault on the hovering object, firing more than 14,000 rounds of anti-aircraft artillery into the air. The onslaught was witnessed by more than one million people.

After more than 90 minutes of battle, the unscathed craft simply disappeared over the Pacific Ocean. It was never seen again, and this event was destined to become forgotten history… until now.

Join the remaining eyewitnesses as they recount their experiences, complete with dramatic recreations, photographs, and documentation of that mystifying night. Witness a new form of documentary film making, from the mind of Jose Escamilla. You deserve to know the truth.

Jose Escamilla's documentary film is to be released soon around the same time as two other Hollywood films with similar titles also about "The Battle of Los Angeles", however with a false, misleading message of an alien invasion.

On March 11, 2011, and March 15, 2011, "Battle: Los Angeles", a 100 million dollar film, and Battle of Los Angeles, which is being called a “mockbuster” film were released.

Hollywood Films still foolishly continue with their dis-info campaign making the ET presence look like an alien invasion despite the fact that these advanced civilizations have never gone on the offensive even if they could after being fired at and chased by air force jets.

Anyone who knows a little about the Battle of Los Angeles would ask the question, why would the military fire at a weather balloon (As per the official statement) for an hour and a half without being able to bring it down ! hmmm ... :)

The Cover Up is over ... It's time to wake up !

A Russian scientist is trying to convince people they can change the world simply by using their own energy. He says that thinking in a certain way can have a positive or negative effect on the surrounding environment.

"We are developing the idea that our consciousness is part of the material world and that with our consciousness we can directly influence our world," said Dr. Konstantin Korotkov, a professor of physics at St. Petersburg State Technical University. To bridge our understanding of the unseen world of energy, scientific experiments are being carried out using a technique called bioelectrophotography, based on the fact that we are constantly emitting energy, which was also discovered by Dr. Bruce Lipton in his work on Epigenetics. Bioelectrophotography aims to capture these energy fields seen as a light around the body or what some people would call your aura.

This gripping documentary titled "My Mum Talks To Aliens" follows a mother and son on a journey of discovery, as they travel the country in pursuit of solid evidence of an extraterrestrial presence here on Earth.

In My Mum Talks to Aliens there is one issue that is driving a wedge between mother and son - Mary and Chris Rodwell - the existence of extraterrestrial life. Chris is a self-confessed alien sceptic, whilst his mum Mary is a leading global authority on the subject. But her beliefs have come at a cost, her husband left and it is now impacting her relationship with Chris.

Mary attempts to convince and educate her son, and thus the world about aliens. She introduces her son to her clients who have had first-hand alien abduction experiences, including one who claims to have had sexual intercourse with an extraterrestrial being. She reveals shockingly clear, never-seen-before footage of UFOs, and visits acclaimed Astrophysicist, Ragbir Bhatal from the University of Western Sydney. Bhatal is one of only three people in the world whose job it is to scan the skies for alien communications.

Mary is affectionately known as Australia’s “Alien Lady” and is one of the World’s most sought after and respected experts on all things to do with the UFO phenomena. A former midwife and nurse, grief counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist, she founded ACERN (Australian Close Encounter Resource Network) in 1997. The organisation has now grown to be the largest of its kind specialising in helping alien abduction victims’ deal with their traumas with the support of qualified medical doctors, psychologists and therapists.

To date, Mary’s ACERN has supported some 1,600 cases of ET encounters worldwide from countries including the USA, Japan and Russia. Mary says, “For those with encounter experiences, my work offers them validation and an understanding in their own personal journey.”

A compelling raconteur with controversial subject matter, Mary has previously been invited to speak at Oxford University in England as well as at UFO symposiums in Hong Kong, USA, UK, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand. In 2006, she joined the Former Canadian Defence Minister, Paul Hellyer at the World Peace Conference in Hawaii to call for greater understanding of the UFO phenomena and compile an historic mission statement on Exopolitics, the political implications of an extraterrestrial presence.

Mary maybe one of the world’s leading alien abduction councillors, and she maybe in demand all over the world for her expert extraterrestrial advice, but can she convince her own son about her out-of-this-world beliefs, and save her most precious relationship of all? To find out tune into My Mum Talks To Aliens only on SBS on Tuesday 30 November at 8.30pm.

My Mum Talks To Aliens is part of SBS’s Australian Documentary Season, Secrets and Lives. The captivating season is a snapshot of Australian life that is guaranteed not to be seen anywhere else on television. The compelling, at times provocative season includes six new documentaries taking viewers into a range of extraordinary worlds in contemporary Australia and, through the incredible characters that inhabit each documentary, explores themes that are inspiring and thought-provoking.

“I believe these advanced intelligences have been
visiting this planet since the dawn of time, and I believe
they’re here to assist evolution to another level.”

Stéphane Allix' documentary film "Experiencers" features several experiencers who had worked with Dr. John E. Mack who appears only briefly in this film, his death having occurred soon after production began.

More substantial are visits to the New England countryside with experiencers, including one couple who videotaped an unidentified flying object hovering above a lake a few hours before they were abducted from their lakeside cottage. Also in this film, is the New York artist and alien encounter investigator Budd Hopkins.

Although this documentary is similar to other documentaries commonly seen on American cable television, it has a more leisurely pace and gives more time for the experiencers to explain themselves than is commonly granted in US productions. One of the best interviews in the program is not with an experiencer at all, but rather with the husband of an experiencer, who matter-of-factly explains how his family has come to terms with his wife's experiences.

We on Earth are about to witness the biggest full moon in almost two decades when our natural satellite reaches its closest point to Earth next weekend on Saturday, the 19th of March 2011.

On 19 March, the full moon will appear unusually large in the night sky as it reaches a point in its cycle known as 'lunar perigee'.

Stargazers will be treated to a spectacular view when the moon approaches Earth at a distance of 221,567 miles in its elliptical orbit - the closest it will have passed to our planet since 1992.

The full moon could appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter in the sky, especially when it rises on the eastern horizon at sunset or is provided with the right atmospheric conditions.

This phenomenon has reportedly heightened concerns about 'supermoons' being linked to extreme weather events - such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. The last time the moon passed close to the Earth was on 10 January 2005, around the time of the Indonesian earthquake that measured 9.0 on the Richter scale.

Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was also associated with an unusually large full moon.

Previous supermoons occurred in 1955, 1974 and 1992 - each of these years experienced extreme weather events.

However, an expert speaking to Yahoo! News today believes that a larger moon causing weather chaos is a popular misconception.

Dr Tim O'Brien, a researcher at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester, said: "The dangers are really overplayed. You do get a bit higher than average tides than usual along coastlines as a result of the moon's gravitational pull, but nothing so significant that will cause a serious climatic disaster or anything for people to worry about."

But according to Dr Victor Gostin, a Planetary and Environmental Geoscientist at Adelaide University, there may be a link between large-scale earthquakes in places around the equator and new and full moon situations.

He said: "This is because the Earth-tides (analogous to ocean tides) may be the final trigger that sets off the earthquake."

Japan is in the news ... A powerful tsunami spawned by the largest earthquake in Japan's recorded history slammed the eastern coast today !

It's time we start tuning into the vibration of love and send this healing energy to Gaia ... Now !

So, here we stand, at the beginning of the 9th wave of the Mayan Calendar, which commences on the 9th of March and culminates on the 28th of October. According to the writings of Mayan Calendar authority, Carl Calleman, this will be the most intense period of evolution that the Planet has seen, and will result in Earth finally reaching Cosmic or Universal Consciousness. This is what Archangel Michael has been saying for quite a while, and the webinar/channel that We did with Jim Self on the 21st of December (Solstice) last year was specifically designed to assist people to prepare for this shift into Cosmic and Galactic time waves.

I am always so grateful to Michael for providing the information that we need before the time! At this point, the 9th of March, we will enter a more intense phase of this energy, as foreseen by the Maya many centuries ago. I will be doing an online free webinar with my friend Sean Caulfield, in which we will briefly explain the essence of the Mayan calendar and the 9th wave, for those who are not familiar with this, and then do an activation with the Spirit Keepers to align with the incoming energies in a graceful way that is filled with love and free of fear.

If you would like to join the webinar at 9pm PST on Wednesday the 9th, please go to the Starchild website where you can register.

It is also true, that part of the process that we are passing through in this rapid period of evolution and change, is an integration of the wisdom of the Ancients and the Indigenous peoples. As Michael has said in many channels, this wisdom must be reintegrated into the Collective Consciousness before we can move forward. In our modern culture, we have lost our connection with Nature and with the wisdom of our ancestors, and so we are learning now how to reconnect and integrate this within our sense of Who We Are. It is necessary and it is a part of the "healing" of our Being back into wholeness and "Oneness". But, this morning I was reading through some information about a certain recently prominent teacher who has used the ceremonies and teachings of the Indigenous peoples in ways that some consider to be lacking in integrity. Now, while I do not want to get into that debate, it does occur to me that there is a tendency for people to want to "integrate" the wisdom of the past and of the indigenous peoples by becoming them in some way. In my travels around the Globe, I have encountered "Native Americans" in the Middle East and "Indians" in South America. What is it that makes so many people want to abandon their own culture and become something they are not? Do we imagine that if we dress in the clothes, wear the feathers and beat a drum that will magically make us into a powerful shaman?

In my own view, I think it is a symptom of our disconnection from Nature. In our consumerist culture we have no idea how to get back to nature and our inner connection with nature, and so we "borrow" from cultures that seem to be successful. I say "seem", because most of these cultures are as lost and disconnected as the rest of us, and are also seeking to reconnect with their past and their roots, whether they are Tibetans, Lakotans or Khoi-San in Africa. And so it is that so many of us are drawn into "dressing up" as Indigenous peoples and pretending that we have what they have, or what they had in the past.

I must admit that this was a part of my development as well. I have tried out being "Native American" and "Indian" and "African", and in the process have worked with some incredibly gifted and wonderful people and been taught by people I would call Shamans. I know Shamanic techniques and can use them in healing and ceremony, but I know that I am not an indigenous Shaman. I am a western educated person seeking to reconnect with my inner divinity and power and my connection with nature. And, surely this is what all of us are seeking, no matter what culture we belong to.

The essence of the search seems to me, not wearing the feathers and eating the mushrooms, but finding that deep inner connection in your own way. In a way that resonates with who you are and your connection to the Earth. This is what I have been teaching with Archangel Michael in the Webinar intensive that I am doing right now.

Certainly there are Shamanic teachings that resonate universally, I think. I am not that sure any more. When I do events and we work outdoors, I love creating a fire circle at night, or working with the medicine wheel as a way of introducing people the the concepts of elemental honor and connection. But I was aware, quite recently, of the rather strange energy of trying to introduce a group of Russian Lightworkers to the Medicine Wheel in a St Petersburg forest, just meters from a wooden church structure that represented the wisdom of the Russian ancestors. We did connect with the Elemental energy, we managed to create a thunderstorm that resulted in a power outage in the city of St Petersburg! From that adventure I learnt to be much more careful in working with elemental energies that are unstable, since at that time of the great fires in Russia the elemental energies were in a state of great instability.

What was given to me later, is that the connection with nature resonates most deeply when it is made from within and in a way that honors nature in the Heart. It is about the values of the Indigenous traditions, respect for Nature and honor for all living Beings. It is about learning to live together in Peace and to honor all with whom we share the Planet. In this time, it has become an urgent necessity that we rediscover the values of sustaining the Earth for future generations and not just taking what we need and not thinking of the damage we leave behind in our search for more. And yes, I do believe that doing ceremonies in nature that honor nature is an important part of this reconnection. But I think also that these ceremonies should be ones that we create from our own inner sense of who we are and how we relate to nature in the place where we are. And they should integrate who we are and where we are with a sense of the "now". We are not living in the Stone Age or in Tribes, most of us have to deal with the complexities of modern urban life and social organization as we make our way back to the "Mother"...our connection with Nature.

Certainly, the Shekinah Light, that has been coming to our Planet in increasing intensity in the last year, will bring us closer to the Divine Feminine within and assist our journey inwards to the "self" that is the Divine Flame of Love and Truth. It is within each one of us, and we can find that reconnection within, in the Heart space of Love. In fact, this is the only place that we will find it, and by accepting who we are and why we are here.

To honor the Indigenous ones, we must know that we are the ones we have been waiting for. And that we chose to born where we did and into the social groups that we did. In order to know the Self, we must first embrace who we are and why we are here. That is difficult for most of us if we are low on self worth. It is easier to dress up in a Romantic costume and to pretend to be someone else in another culture. But, sooner or later we will need to come home to ourselves, and be ourselves. And then....we will discover that we are All Things and that we are Connected to All Things.

We Are all that We Will Ever Need to Be. Right Here and Right Now.

This is the video I made with Sean as we talk about the 9th wave and the incoming energies and working with the Indigenous Peoples in Africa:
