Slumdog Millionaire Sweeps 8 Oscars Enthralls Indians World Over

Yet again, Slumdog Millionaire comes out the big winner and this time it's 8 coveted Oscars out of the 10 it was nominated for which include Best Picture, Cinematography, Film Editing, Sound Mixing, Best Original Score and Song, 'Jai Ho' by A R Rahman and Gulzar.

"When we started out, we had no stars, we had no power or muscle, we didn't have enough money, really, to do what we wanted to do," Colson said. "Most of all we had passion and we had belief, and our film shows that if you have those two things, truly anything is possible."

Sean Penn won the Best Actor award for his role as the pioneering gay politico, Harvey Milk, while six time nominee Kate Winslet finally had her moment with the Best Actress Oscar for her role in 'The Reader'.

Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as 'The Joker' in The Dark Knight ! The Best Animated Feature to the Disney-Pixar hit WALL-E.

Slumdog Millionaire may hit £170 million in world-wide ticket sales, nearly 20 times the amount it cost to make, it was predicted yesterday.

Millions of Indians watching the Oscars live on their TV Sets cheered in unison for Slumdog Millionaire as the 8 prized Oscars were announced in their respective categories. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also congratulated the "Slumdog Millionaire" team Monday, saying, "The winners have done India proud" ! Hopefully he does something to change this bitter reality for the 65 million slum dwellers believed to be living in India today. While the movie is appreciated for all it's uniqueness and real portrayal, the issue of poverty and inequality still looms large in front of our very faces and it's time we start making those little changes in our own lives, in our perspective of things which affects all that surrounds us and in more ways than one, is us !
