After a series of really interesting UFO and Crop Circle Doodles, Google is back in peaceful~action with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the man who is known all around the world for his message of Ahimsa (non-violence) which he shared with humanity by setting an example ... his life !




Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, a coastal town in present-day Gujarat, India, on 2 October 1869. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, who belonged to the Hindu Modh community, was the diwan (Prime Minister) of the eponymous Porbander state, a small princely state in the Kathiawar Agency of British India. His grandfather's name was Uttamchand Gandhi fondly called as Uttam Gandhi and his mother, Putlibai came from the Hindu Pranami Vaishnava community. Growing up with a devout mother and the Jain traditions of the region, the young Mohandas absorbed early the influences that would play an important role in his adult life; these included compassion to sentient beings, vegetarianism, fasting for self-purification, and mutual tolerance between individuals of different creeds.

The Indian classics, especially the stories of Shravana and Maharaja Harishchandra from the Indian epics, had had a great impact on Gandhi in his childhood. The story of Harishchandra, a well known tale of an ancient Indian king and a truthful hero, had a profound effect on Gandhi as a boy. Gandhi in his autobiography admits that it left an indelible impression on his mind. Gandhi's early self-identification with Truth and Love as the supreme value is traced back to his identification with these epic characters. "Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well" "Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony" "You must be the change you want to see in the world" "You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean ; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty" As I look around me I see the world in a different light Everything is changing and it happened over night Changing for the better and it starts with you and me So we'll sing our song together and forever we'll be free ... After the UFO doodle linked to the search phrase 'Unexplained Phenomena' on the world's most visited web page, Google Search, Google is back with yet another transdimensional doodle of a Crop Circle with a saucer like craft hovering over and a Tractor harvesting crop creating the 'L' in Google !

Google has put up the special "crop circle" logo in some Pacific region countries. Google Japan, Google China, Google Taiwan, Google Korea and Google Australia all have the special UFO Crop Circle doodle up today, September 15th, which features a UFO hovering over a field with the Google logo spelled out.


Each country that Google used the special logo had it linked to a search for that country's word for "crop circle". In Japan, the link went to a search for "mystery circles".

On Twitter, Google shared this 51.327629, -0.5616088 http://twitpic.com/hsfgl about 3 hours ago ... on Google Maps give the co-ordinates of Woodham Road in the town of Woking which is curiously enough one of the first places where Martians landed in the novel that was called 'The War of Worlds' and was written by H.G Wells author of 'The Time Machine'. The town of Woking was also featured in 'The Meaning of Liff' written by Douglas Adams author of the famous 'The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy'.


Knowing Where One's Towel is ...

Somebody who can stay in control of virtually any situation is somebody who is said to know where his or her towel is. The logic behind this statement is presented in chapter 3 of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy :


" ....a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: nonhitchhiker) discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet-weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitchhiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with."


Douglas Adams got the idea for this phrase when he went on holiday and found that his beach towel kept disappearing. On Towel Day, May 25th, fans commemorate Douglas Adams by carrying towels with them.
