Ram Bahadur Bomjon (born on 9 April 1990, sometimes Bomjan, Banjan, or Bamjan), also known as Palden Dorje (his official Buddhist name), is from Ratanapuri village, Bara district, Nepal and is believed to be the reincarnation of Buddha by his supporters. An 18-year old Nepalese ascetic whom many have hailed as a new Buddha. According to his brother Gangajit, a "very clear and white" light "different from sunlight" emanated from his head. On November 8, 2005 Dorje arose and said to the public, "Tell the people not to call me a Buddha. I don't have the Buddha's energy. I am at the level of rinpoche."

On 2 August 2007 Bomjon addressed a large crowd in Hallori jungle in Bara district of southern Nepal. The Namo Buddha Tapoban Committee, which is devoted to looking after Bomjon, assembled the meeting. A notice about the boy's first-ever preaching was broadcast by a local FM radio station, and the committee also invited people by telephone. Around three thousand people gathered to listen to Bomjon's address. A video of the event has also surfaced. According to Upendra Lamichhane, a blogger who wrote an article and took pictures of the meeting, Bomjon's message was "The only way we can save this nation is through spirituality".


His speech was as follows:

Murder, violence, greed, anger and temptation have made the human world a desperate place. A terrible storm has descended upon the human world, and this is carrying the world towards destruction. There is only one way to save the world and that is through dharma. When one doesn't walk the righteous path of spiritual practice, this desperate world will surely be destroyed. Therefore, follow the path of spirituality and spread this message to your fellows. Never put obstacles, anger and disbelief in the way of my meditation's mission. I am only showing you the way; you must seek it on your own. What I will be, what I will do, the coming days will reveal. Human salvation, the salvation of all living beings, and peace in the world are my goal and my path. "Namo Buddha sangaya, Namo Buddha sangaya, namo sangaya." I am contemplating on the release of this chaotic world from the ocean of emotion, on our detachment from anger and temptation, without straying from the path for even a moment, I am renouncing my own attachment to my life and my home forever, I am working to save all living beings. But in this undisciplined world, my life's practice is reduced to mere entertainment.



The practice and devotion of many Buddhas is directed at the world's betterment and happiness. It is essential but very difficult to understand that practice and devotion. But though it is easy to lead this ignorant existence, human beings don't understand that one day we must leave this uncertain world and go with the Lord of Death. Our long attachments with friends and family will dissolve into nothingness. We have to leave behind the wealth and property we have accumulated. What's the use of my happiness, when those who have loved me from the beginning, my mother, father, brothers, relatives are all unhappy. Therefore, to rescue all sentient beings, I have to be Buddha-mind, and emerge from my underground cave to do vajra meditation. To do this I have to realize the right path and knowledge, so do not disturb my practice. My practice detaches me from my body, my soul and this existence. In this situation there will be 72 goddess Kalis. Different gods will be present, along with the sounds of thunder and of "tangur", and all the celestial gods and goddesses will be doing puja (worship). So until I have sent a message, do not come here, and please explain this to others. Spread spiritual knowledge and spiritual messages throughout the world. Spread the message of world peace to all. Seek a righteous path and wisdom will be yours.

"I feel no need for food and water," states Prahlad Jani, a seventy-six year old Indian ascetic who lives in a cave near the Ambaji temple in the state of Gujarat. Mr. Jani claims that he has not had food or fluids to drink for the last sixty-five years. At the age of seven years he left home in search of spiritual unfoldment. Jani states that at the age of eleven years he was blessed by a goddess. He claims that since that blessing he has gained his sustenance from nectar that filters down through a hole in his palate, and has not passed urine or stools since then. Mr. Jani explained, "I get the elixir of life from the hole in my palate, which enables me to go without food and water." Almost daily Mr. Jani enters a state of Samadhi characterized by extreme bliss and enormous light and strength. He says that he has never experienced medical problems. He says that he did not speak for a period of forty-five years.

In November 2003, after over a year of coaxing, Prahlad Jani was finally persuaded to participate in a scientific research study. A medical research team of twenty-one specialists, headed by Dr. Sudhir V. Shah, had Mr. Jani under twenty-four hours of observation for ten days at the Sterling Hospital in Ahmedabad. The team's research expertise included cardiology, neurology, urology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, renal function, pulmonary function, ENT analysis, psychiatry, general medicine, and other specialities. A series of investigations were done on Mr. Jani in each of these areas according to a pre-determined protocol, and additional tests were carried out as per suggestions of the team. At the conclusion of their intensive investigations the team's doctors were left with an unexplained mystery, unable to disprove Mr. Jani's claims.

Mr. Jani was initially kept in ICU for the first twenty-four hours. For the next nine days he was kept in a specially prepared room with a sealed-off toilet and a glass door. The room was also equipped with video surveillance to continuously monitor Mr. Jani. Additionally, staff persons were assigned to stay in the same room with Jani round-the-clock to make sure that he did not eat, drink, or pass urine or stool.


To assure researchers of no possible intake of water, Mr. Jani agreed he would not bathe during the medical investigation. Mr. Jani was permitted a small measured quantity of water to use as a mouthwash. He then spat the water into a beaker to verify that none had been drunk. An ultrasound, which was made of Mr. Jani's bladder twice daily, indicated that there was urine accumulation, which subsequently decreased on its own without passing.

At the end of the ten days of observation, the team of doctors verified that Prahladbhai Jani had not taken food or drank fluids. (The average person cannot survive without water for more than four days.) The team concluded that Mr. Jani's health had not deteriorated during this study. Also, according to the hospital's deputy superintendent, Dr. Dinesh Desai, "A series of tests conducted on him show his body mechanism is that of a normal person." Mr. Jani's survival without food or fluids remains one of those unexplained mysteries.

The following are excerpts from the research team's concluding report:

1. The protocol was strictly adhered to.

2. Mr. Jani had not passed or dribbled urine during these 10 days.

3. He has not taken anything by mouth or by any other routes not even water for 10 days.

4. All his parameters remained within the range determined by the committee.

5. He has shown evidence of formation of urine, which seems to be reabsorbed from his bladder wall. However, at present the committee does not have any scientific explanation for the same but the help of senior scientists and medical personnel of the country is being taken for the same.

We are surprised as to how he has survived despite above particularly without passing urine for 10 days and remaining generally physically fit. However, it should be made very clear that we have confirmed the claim over 10 days only and we as scientists and responsible doctors cannot say anything regarding validity of the claim of his sustaining without food, drinks, urination and excretion of stools over several years.

According to astrology there are 12 evolutionary cycles which correspond to the zodiac. Each cycle is said to last between 2,000 to 2,400 years. The concept of Indigo Children was born from those who were able to see the colors of the human aura, which is our soul's signature represented as a frequency of light energy. How often have you said: 'I really like the vibes I get from this person?' Well, that is you reading another's aura!

Indigos, as we term them today, have been incarnating on the planet for many centuries, however, it has only been in our recent human history that we have began to notice their influence. In the 1960s it was the so-called 'flower-children' and the dawning of the Age of Aquarius that provided a glimpse into our Indigo future... However by the end of 1967 and the 'Summer of Love' in San Francisco, the influence of drugs had heavily impeded the early Indigo consciousness - but nonetheless the 'New Age' had begun!

By the late 70s and early 80s it was observed that many of the children being born had an Indigo aura prominent among the other natural colors. The colors in the aura reflect one's unique physical, emotional and mental wellbeing; but over and above this, the dominant color represents your soul development or spiritual level of attainment. This is something which is developed lifetime over lifetime and those with an Indigo aura illustrate something very special.

What makes Indigo Children so special is that they are one of the first generations which are fully connected to 'source' or the divine. They are therefore highly intuitive and often are the first to spot a UFO in the sky or even sense an 'alien' presence. These abilities, however, may rest within unconsciously to some - expressed as one or more of the characteristics typical of Indigo, such as their demand for truth and honesty in their transactions with self and others; or just an overall fascination with the paranormal. Sound familiar to anyone?

Indigo characteristics can be also be found fully manifest by those following their life's plan such, as the energy-healer Adam (know by most as the Dreamhealer) or the amazing detail and color combinations contained in the artwork by Akiane, herself still in her early teens.

Indigo Children, some known as 'Starseeds' are here to show us how to live on Earth in the vibration of truth and compassion to permit open and honest contact with our intergalactic neighbours.

Indigos tend to live lives according to their own innate truths and find it very difficult to interact with others who are superficial, two-faced or those who lack an open heart. "I think we can always tell intuitively when someone is ready to take on our knowledge or perspective" says Ryan, a UK member of one of the specialty online Indigo forums. "I believe all of us can tap into any knowledge we feel we need to help us because it is all there floating around, we just have to tune ourselves into it. When we (humanity) are fully conscious again, this will be the norm".

As strange as it may seem to some, this opinion is typical of the Indigo - many of whom actually refer to themselves as 'Starseeds'. The Starseed is an individual who has incarnated here on Earth whose origins are actually 'off planet' and belong to what we would consider an 'alien' civilization - thus securing the future probability of human-ET contact within this generation or the next.

Marshal Masters in his 2004 book The Indigo-ET Connection explains "As we evolve, off-world races will freely contact us, and Indigos will become our honest liaisons, for they will instinctively know friend from foe. All are born to this role, but not all are destined to fulfill it".

One thing is for sure, however, Indigo Children are here to provide us with a vision of our potential as the super-natural human beings that we truly are. They are here to teach us with their insight, sensitivity and intuition and by doing so, they will help create a new world of existence in how we relate to each other and in the things we find important in our lives. And by doing so, they may well just open the door to allow humanity to come together to represent ourselves and be part of a larger community of Intergalactic beings… now wouldn't that be something!

The black hole, known as Sagittarius A* (pronounced “Sagittarius A-star”), cannot be seen directly, but its nature can be inferred from the pattern of motion of the stars that surround it. Details of the research are published in the Astrophysical Journal.

The stellar orbits in the galactic centre show that the central mass concentration of four million solar masses must be a black hole, beyond any reasonable doubt.
“The centre of the galaxy is a unique laboratory where we can study the fundamental processes of strong gravity, stellar dynamics and star formation that are of great relevance to all other galactic nuclei, with a level of detail that will never be possible beyond our galaxy.”
His colleague Stefan Gillessen said: “The galactic centre harbours the closest supermassive black hole known. Hence, it is the best place to study black holes in detail.”

The observations have also allowed astronomers to pinpoint the Earth’s distance from the centre of the galaxy with greater precision, measuring it at 27,000 light years. Scientists have also been able to identify common properties among the stellar orbits at the galactic centre.
“The stars in the innermost region are in random orbits, like a swarm of bees,” Dr Gillessen said. “However, further out, six of the 28 stars orbit the black hole in a disc. In this respect the new study has also confirmed explicitly earlier work in which the disc had been found, but only in a statistical sense.
“Ordered motion outside the central light-month, randomly oriented orbits inside - that’s how the dynamics of the young stars in the galactic centre are best described.”

Geoff Stray’s magnum opus ‘Beyond 2012’ has gone a long way to spread the word far and wide about the possibilities of some kind of huge shift, symbolic or physical, in the year 2012, an event seemingly long indicated in ancient writings and calendars, and apparently reflected in several crop formations. MIRANDA JOYCE reviews the book…



Several years back, I can remember buying a thin stapled booklet called ‘Beyond 2012’ at a crop circle conference. I bought it from its author Geoff Stray, who seemed to be very much a lone figure in promoting the 2012 subject in those days. For some time this was my only contact with the many different prophecies for the year 2012, and it was a Godsend, a compendium of all the theories and beliefs under one cover.

Now we have the proper book version of ‘Beyond 2012’, hugely expanded, beautifully produced and unrecognisable from its humble forbear, but I am delighted to find that it still retains its vital balance of viewpoints and sweep of coverage. Nearly every theory, however extreme or obscure, gets touched on at least briefly (longer for the more credible ideas), and Mr Stray is one of the most thorough researchers of any subject that I have ever come across. He is open enough to give coverage to everything, but has enough discernment and honesty to say clearly when he thinks something has validity and when it does not. The style is never less than authoritative, but also manages to be witty and sharp, entertaining even as it educates.

For some, the year 2012 brings thoughts of global change, upheaval, apocalypse. Others see it as a shift of consciousness, new spiritual awareness, higher frequencies. Several different cultures of the ancients (not just the famous Maya) appear to have had knowledge of a significant time cycle, which may bring either some of these turmoils or delights, none of them, or all of them - hence the full title of the book: ‘Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy’. Taken together with modern predictions by various means, scientific and mystical, there is something of substance here. Knowing exactly what to expect is the problem, and the urgency in wanting to know comes because the next turning of the cycle appears to be 21st December 2012, according to most observers of the predictions. Is the heart of the cycle about astronomy? Weather or geological cycles? Psychic development? Returning gods? Extra-Terrestrial intervention?


Anyone wanting to get a good fix on what this 2012 business is all about should start with this book – there is simply no other source out there that I have found which provides such a huge overview of the whole phenomenon. This book is well-written, well-reasoned and exhaustively comprehensive. That said, it is not the easiest of reads - nor should it be. Some of the information is necessarily detailed, leaving no stone unturned in its mission to get to the heart of a belief or theory. And some of the base information is of its nature complex – the Maya calendar, for instance, the most publicly-known area of 2012 prophecy, is not simple to explain, and one must persevere to get through some of the fine details. Doing so brings rewards – the key to understanding IS in this book when one relaxes and simply absorbs. But if the calculations and charts do get too much, it is still possible to skip through them and yet retain clear understanding of the point being made. In other words, you will not read this book at a single session over a cup of coffee. It’s not like that, and life is not like that. Instead, you have 352 pages of incredibly well-researched information that may change your life, depending on what level the data hits home.

Crop circles figure significantly at key points of the book and, as we know, several agriglyphs in recent years have directly referenced the 2012 time cycle. The circles get a whole chapter to themselves, and Mr Stray’s revelations about the multi-layered correlations to 2012 and numerological connections of the formations in question are astonishing and make one look again at the incredible purpose (or at least universal connectedness) with which the circles seem to be made.

The book itself is well-presented and full of explanatory illustrations, colour and black and white, and, joy of joys – it has a detailed index. This makes it a very valuable research tool for anyone with even a little interest in the 2012 phenomenon and its satellite subjects, as relevant bits of the many ideas covered in the book can be checked so easily. So many books these days are let down woefully by the lazy omission of such an obviously useful feature. There are also lots of comprehensive references and notes which give all the pointers to further information that anyone could want.

In the last half of the 20th century, many places across the planet have been witness to the unexplainable phenomena of Extraterrestrials, UFOs, Orbs and Sacred Geometry in the fields most know as Crop Circles ! A Message from Richard Boylan !

I am sharing with you first, before I post this to my Lists, a message given me late Sunday by Councillor Asheoma. To put his message into context, we need to recall that recently, the huge Countrywide Financial homes-financing institution declared bankruptcy. This was followed by the giant Wall Street financial firm Bear Stearns also going insolvent.

Last week on September 7 the enormous semi-autonomous home lending institutions, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who made many of the home loans and mortgage guarantees in the United States, declared themselves insolvent, and were taken over by the U.S. government, lest their collapses cause the housing and mortgage markets to entirely crumble.

The timing of Councillor Asheoma's message for today was prompted by the development that the New York Stock Exchange was opened on Sunday for an extraordinary special session, to permit the largest financial houses to clear out their deposits with Lehman Brothers financial institution, before it declared insolvency before midnight yesterday. This morning Lehman Brothers announced that it's filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. "Who cares?", you may say. Or even, "Serves those fat cats right." But wait. There's more.

Asheoma essentially said that the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy marks the beginning of the very large financial collapse that Star Nations has seen developing for a while.

While there are many more dominoes left to fall against one another over the weeks and months ahead, today (or yesterday, if you will) marks the beginning of what might be indelicately labeled The Great Bush Depression. While under President Clinton the U.S. budget had a $117 billion _surplus_, under President Bush the U.S. has a budget _deficit_ of $9.7 trillion dollars.

News reports state that other major financial houses are "near the edge". These include Merrill Lynch, Citibank, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan, to name some of the best known.

Nouriel Roubini, the head of the RGE Monitor consulting firm which investigates banks' solvency, said today, "It's clear we're one step away from a financial meltdown."

Nor will the financial hardships be confined to the United States. Reverberations of the cascading failures of financial institutions will impact economies around the globe, since they are so inter-connected in today's world.

Councillor Asheoma commented that the times ahead will bring hardships to many people. We will all be presented with situations where neighbors, friends, and others in our and surrounding communities will be without the necessities, and we will all have to pull together to get us all through. If we turn a cold shoulder when others are in dire straits, then the situation will get ugly, miserable, and destructive. If we rise to the challenge with a communitarian and family-like attitude, then we will emerge a better people than before the crisis just ahead of us struck.

Let us use this heads-up by Councillor Asheoma to resolve now to not panic, to keep our priorities clear as moral and spiritual persons, and, like the Biblical injunction of old, operate with the clear understanding that in fact, yes, we _are_ our brother's (and sister's) keeper. Together we can get through this.

This crisis can be handled in ways which help usher in a reformed Fifth World society, or usher in chaos and societal devolution. The choice is ours.

On the 1st of December 2008, occurred a rare celestial alignment of Jupiter and Venus with the waxing crescent moon together creating a smiley in the sky.

Viewers in Western Australia have the best view, with the moon appearing closer to the "eyes" formed by the planets.

While the planets and moon appear to be close together, in reality they're not. The moon is 250,000 miles away, while Venus is 93 million miles away and Jupiter 540 million miles away. North Americans on the other side of the equator viewed the phenomenon rather differently — as a sad face with downcast mouth.

As another dark plot to create unrest among the citizens of India and Pakistan unfolds, vital clues to a much larger deception called the war on terror come to light. I would like to quote a line from Zeitgeist, 'To keep a society, a nation together there is a need to create an outside enemy figure!' More so, to capitalize on peoples emotions and keep nations at perpetual war with each other at all levels.

So, what we know so far about the Mumbai Terror Attacks is that there were about 10 men who rained havoc and murdered many innocent people at the CST Railway Station, Nariman House, The Oberoi and The Landmark Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai on the 26th of November 2008. Kasab(Only One Arrested)and Khan began with killing 56 people at the CST railway station and then they took a hijacked police vehicle and went on shooting people at will at the Cama & GT Hospitals. On their way they got off the police car and got into the Silver Skoda Octavia of an unsuspecting person who thought it was the police, hence stopped his car. As the CST was being attacked, at Leopolds Cafe' a popular hangout for backpackers in Mumbai which also featured in Gregory David Roberts' autobiography Shantaram, gunmen hurled grenades killing at least one person. At Nariman House another premeditated attack on a Jewish centre run by Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka, killing both while the Nanny rescued their 2 years old son Moshe and managed to survive.

There is enough to see under the India's 911 / Mumbai Terror Attack banner on Indian News Channels enraging millions all over India, creating animosity towards Pakistan. As per Kasab's statement they were trained at various LeT (Lashkar-e-Toiba) camps in Pakistan for this mission and reached Mumbai by the sea route. They carried out the CST attack to divert the attention of the police while their counterparts could storm the other targets namely the Oberoi and the Taj where the gun battle lasted the longest, 3 days. They singled out and killed American and British nationals at both the Hotels indicating purposeful intent. The Chief Chef at the Taj is said to be an accomplice of these terrorists helping them bring in weapons and supplies and stock up their already booked rooms at the Hotel for the Mayhem to ensue !

Pakistan saw a similar bombing at the Marriot when a suicide bomber rammed a 1000 Kg truck loaded with 600 Kg of military explosives killing 52 people and wounding about 271. Guess what did Bush have to say about it ... US President George W Bush said the attack was "a reminder of the ongoing threat faced by Pakistan, the United States, and all those who stand against violent extremism". All these so called terror attacks in Pakistan and India are well planned acts of generating fear and panic among the unsuspecting populace who quickly lap up all the mainstream media propaganda and would gradually become more accepting towards the inevitability of WAR, a violent means to attain peace killing brave men of either army willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their country.


It's time each one of us seeks to find the truth for ourselves rather than accepting all the terror talk targeted towards an outside enemy giving good reason for a nuclear war to break out wiping out either or both nations completely. Why does the US have to play Father figure to the whole world preaching the old worn out 'War Against Terror' slogan endlessly ? It is time to wake up from our blind folded realities and seek the truth, for the truth will begin to change our world view to a clearer picture as to what is really going on in our waking reality. Politicians and a corrupt system based on greed and globalization ripping the Earth of it's natural beauty shall not last for too long and this change my friend, is happening now, within each one of us ! I just hope we are silent enough to listen to the inner voice when it has so little yet so much to say !

The Story of Santa Claus is the story of the Magic Mushroom ! Santa Claus is the Amanita Muscaria or Fly Agaric Mushroom ! Santa's Red and White attire is symbolic of the Red and White Amanita Muscaria and it's no coincidence the flying reindeer love eating 'Fly Agaric' ... Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, and he has flying reindeer pulling his sleigh through the air. Reindeer are native to Siberia, and the shamanic use of this mushroom in Siberia is well documented. Now, I know Siberia isn't the North Pole exactly, but it's pretty close, and the earth's magnetic pole is actually shifting away from North America and towards Siberia. Christmas trees are Pine trees. Pine trees are the trees that the Amanita Muscaria grows under.They have a mycorrhizal(which basically means non-parasitic) relationship with that plant and Spruce trees. Their shiny red and white caps blooming under the tree looks very much like the tradition of placing shiny wrapped boxes under there and a lot like the red and white stockings children hang under the tree !



Why do Santa’s reindeer fly ? The role of ancient mushroom using Shamans !

These red and white mushrooms, Amanita muscaria, were found in an alpine forest around Creede, Colorado. A. muscaria was the “sacred mushroom” used by the ancient tribal peoples of pre-Christian northern Europe. Its bright coloring suggests the colors of Santa’s garments and of holiday lights.

Although most people see Christmas as a Christian holiday, most of the symbols and icons we associate with Christmas celebrations are actually derived from the shamanistic traditions of the tribal peoples of pre-Christian northern Europe.

The sacred mushroom of these people was the red and white Amanita muscaria, also known as “fly agaric.” This mushroom commonly is seen in books of fairy tales and usually is associated with magic and fairies. It contains potent hallucinogenic compounds once used by ancient peoples for insight and transcendental experiences. Most of the major elements of the modern Christmas celebration, such as Santa Claus, Christmas trees, magical reindeer and the giving of gifts, are originally based upon the traditions surrounding the harvest and consumption of this most sacred mushroom.

The World Tree

Ancient peoples, including the Lapps of modern-day Finland, and the Koyak tribes of the central Russian steppes, believed in the idea of a World Tree. The World Tree was seen as a kind of cosmic axis onto which the planes of the universe are fixed. The roots of the World Tree stretch down into the underworld, its trunk is the “middle earth” of everyday existence, and its branches reach upwards into the heavenly realm.


Amanita muscaria grows only under certain types of trees, mostly firs and evergreens. The cap of the mushroom is the fruit of the larger mycelium beneath the soil which exists in a symbiotic relationship with the roots of the tree. To ancient people, this mushroom was literally “the fruit of the tree.”

The North Star was also considered sacred, since all other stars in the sky revolved around its fixed point. They associated this “Pole Star” with the World Tree and the central axis of the universe. The top of the World Tree touched the North Star, and the spirit of the shaman would climb the metaphorical tree, thereby passing into the realm of the gods. This is the true meaning of the star on top of the modern Christmas tree, and also the reason that the super-shaman Santa makes his home at the North Pole.

Ancient peoples were amazed at how this magical mushroom sprang from the earth without any visible seed. They considered this “virgin birth” to have been the result of the morning dew, which was seen as the “semen of the deity.” The silver tinsel we drape onto our modern Christmas tree represents this divine fluid.

The active ingredients of A. muscaria are not metabolized by the body, and so they remain active in the urine. In fact, it is safer to drink the urine of one who has consumed the mushroom than to eat the mushroom directly, as many of the toxic compounds are processed and eliminated on the first pass through the body.

It was common practice among ancient people to recycle the potent effects of the mushroom by drinking each other’s urine. The mushroom’s ingredients can remain potent even after six passes through the human body. Some scholars argue that this is the origin of the phrase “to get pissed,” as this urine-drinking activity preceded alcohol by thousands of years.

Reindeer were the sacred animals of these semi-nomadic people, as the reindeer provided food, shelter, clothing and other necessities. Reindeer are also fond of eating the mushroom; they will seek it out, then prance about while under its influence. Often the urine of tripped-out reindeer would be consumed for its psychedelic effects.

This effect goes the other way too, as reindeer also enjoy the urine of a human, especially one who has consumed the mushroom. In fact, reindeer will seek out human urine to drink, and some tribesmen carry sealskin containers of their own collected piss, which they use to attract stray reindeer back into the herd.

Legend of the flying reindeer and modern image of Santa

The effects of the A. muscaria usually include sensations of size distortion and flying. The feeling of flying could account for the legends of flying reindeer and legends of shamanic journeys included stories of winged reindeer, transporting their riders up to the highest branches of the World Tree.

Although the modern image of Santa Claus was created at least in part by the advertising department of Coca-Cola, in truth his appearance, clothing, mannerisms and companions all mark him as the reincarnation of these ancient mushroom-gathering shamans.

One of the side effects of eating A. muscaria is that one’s skin and facial features take on a flushed, ruddy glow. This is why Santa is always shown with glowing red cheeks and nose. Even Santa’s jolly “Ho, ho, ho!” is the euphoric laugh of one who has indulged in the magic fungus.

Santa also dresses like a mushroom gatherer. When it was time to go out and harvest the magical mushroom, the ancient shamans would dress much like Santa, wearing red and white fur-trimmed coats and long black boots. These peoples lived in dwellings made of birch and reindeer hide, called “yurts.” Somewhat similar to a tee-pee, the yurt’s central smoke-hole is often also used as an entrance. After gathering the mushroom from under the sacred trees where they appeared, the shamans would fill their sacks and return home. Climbing down the chimney-entrances, they would share out the mushroom’s gifts with those within.

The mushroom needs to be dried before being consumed; the drying process reduces the mushroom’s toxicity while increasing its potency. The shaman would guide the group in stringing the mushrooms they gathered and hanging them around the hearth-fire to dry. This tradition is echoed in the modern stringing of popcorn and other items.

The psychedelic journeys taken under the influence of the amanita were also symbolized by a stick reaching up through the smoke-hole in the top of the yurt. The smoke-hole was the portal where the spirit of the shaman exited the physical plane.

Santa’s famous magical journey, where his sleigh takes him around the whole planet in a single night, is developed from the “heavenly chariot”, used by the gods from whom Santa and other shamanic figures are descended. The chariot of Odin, Thor and even the Egyptian god Osiris is now known as the Big Dipper, which circles around the North Star in a 24-hour period.

In different versions of the ancient story, the chariot was pulled by reindeer or horses. As the animals grew exhausted, their mingled spit and blood falls to the ground, forming the mushrooms.



Saint Nicholas is a legendary figure who supposedly lived during the fourth century. His cult spread quickly and Nicholas became the patron saint of many varied groups, including judges, pawnbrokers, criminals, merchants, sailors, bakers, travelers, the poor, and children.

Most religious historians agree that St Nicholas did not actually exist as a real person but was instead a Christianized version of earlier Pagan gods. Nicholas’ legends were mainly created out of stories about the Teutonic god called Hold Nickar, known as Poseidon to the Greeks. This powerful sea god was known to gallop through the sky during the winter solstice, granting boons to his worshippers below.

When the Catholic Church created the character of St Nicholas, they took his name from “Nickar” and gave him Poseidon’s title of “the Sailor.” There are thousands of churches named in St Nicholas’ honor, most of which were converted from temples to Poseidon and Hold Nickar. (As the ancient pagan deities were demonized by the Christian church, Hold Nickar’s name also became associated with Satan, known as “Old Nick!”)

Local traditions were incorporated into the new Christian holidays to make them more acceptable to the new converts. To these early Christians, Saint Nicholas became a sort of “super-shaman” who was overlaid upon their own shamanic cultural practices. Many images of Saint Nicholas from these early times show him wearing red and white, or standing in front of a red background with white spots, the design of the mushroom.

St Nicholas also adopted some of the qualities of the legendary “Grandmother Befana” from Italy, who filled children’s stockings with gifts. Her shrine at Bari, Italy, became a shrine to St Nicholas.

True spirit of Christmas

By better understanding the truths within these popular celebrations, we can better understand the modern world, and our place in it.

Many people in the modern world have rejected Christmas as being too commercial, claiming that this ritual of giving is actually a celebration of materialism and greed. Yet the true spirit of this winter festival lies not in the exchange of plastic toys, but in celebrating a gift from the earth: the fruiting top of a magical mushroom, and the revelatory experiences it can provide.

Instead of perpetuating outdated and confusing holiday myths, it might be more fulfilling to return to the original source of these seasonal celebrations. How about getting back to basics and enjoying some magical mushrooms with your loved ones this holiday season? What better gift can a family share than a little piece of love and enlightenment?
