Many of us who find ourselves on a spiritual path, living from a place of conscious awareness are now going through what some call 'The Dark Night of The Soul', which is a term to describe a difficult or challenging period in ones life when all aspects of being which seek healing come to the fore ... many layers of illusions which keep us trapped in a materialistic reality have to be shed. For some it may be a relationship which has for long been on the rocks because both partners seem to view the world and reality from different lenses and some find it difficult to keep up with the other's spiritual growth and progress because they find hard to let go off their old selves. We all have masks, lets face it. How attached we are to these masks and how real we consider the mask to be, differs from person to person. The mask which some call our ego tells us we are separate, an individual entity experiencing life. Its through the experiences life has to offer we learn certain necessary lessons for our spirit to grow and evolve, if only we are paying enough attention.

As an Empath or a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) we are at times challenged by life's circumstances to whether acknowledge our gifts in a largely insensitive world or just ignore them as mere figments of our own imagination. We subdue our true nature by giving in to the ways of the world. Since so many people are doing it, must be right ... and what harm can possibly come from it. We don't exactly understand the universal law of karma, cause and effect. Life can become a difficult proposition if you have to share it with someone who doesn't understand the way you see the world and with time things do change, as we let go off our illusions one by one. Earth is going through tremendous changes and these changes affect us as well, as we are all connected in the larger scheme of things.

We may not know this but we will, in our waking lives be witness to some of the greatest moments of our lives as we birth a new era of higher consciousness on this planet. For those of us who choose to remain rooted in a fear based dualistic paradigm, they will stay back as that's what they intended to create for themselves. And for those of us who have the courage to step outside our own fears and self limiting belief systems, we will be co-creating a new world of peace, love and harmony among all beings and lifeforms who are able to shift their own vibrational frequency to match their living environment. We are finally connected in the infinite web of life, swimming in the ocean of infinite consciousness. There is no right or wrong. Only choices, and with each choice we either move closer to self realization or get further away.

These challenging, soul testing times are what we decided to go through once we chose to come to Earth school. No exceptions. The dark night of the soul we are going through is giving us a chance to shift the course of our life towards a more harmonious way of being. In this process there will be many painful endings which will also mark sparkling new beginnings ... Here are somethings about the dark night of the soul which will probably help you gain some insight about some of the things you might be going through too ... Mitakuye Oyasin ... We are all one, family ... :)

"Dark night of the soul" sounds like a threatening and much to be avoided experience. Yet perhaps a quarter of the seekers on the road to higher consciousness will pass through the dark night. In fact, they may pass through several until they experience the profound joy of their true nature.

Many seekers would encourage the dark night experience if they knew what it was. However, to one engaged in the dark night, suffering seems unending.

The dark night occurs after considerable advancement toward higher consciousness. Indeed, the dark night usually occurs like an initiation before one of these special seekers is admitted into regular relationship with higher consciousness. The dark night also occurs to those who do not seek relationship but immersion or unity in the higher consciousness. While the term dark night of the soul is used broadly, its general meaning — in the field of higher consciousness — is a lengthy and profound absence of light and hope. In the dark night you feel profoundly alone.

You Can’t Fit In

The dark night usually develops this way:

You, as a genuine seeker, have gone through many significant phases as you progress toward higher consciousness. Your faith is strong. You have kept loyal companionship with fellow seekers and perhaps you have already found a special teacher. You’ve experienced indications of the reality of higher consciousness and yearn to be more deeply in communion with it. You see the principles of a higher power at work in your life. Yet, all in all, you find yourself somehow painfully on the outside. You feel caught between your old way of living, your old tendencies and associations, and this nebulous, unreachable realm of higher consciousness.

You feel an exile in both places. You don’t belong in the old pastimes, in the old empty or numbing way of life, yet you somehow can’t fit in or feel at home in the fellowship of those who talk naturally of the higher consciousness and its reality. They are experienced, they are absorbed in it. They are loving, giving people. But you are unable to live, with full heart and mind, the way they do. They’re able to apply the principles of higher consciousness easily, yet it’s so hard for you. They have manifestations and proofs on a regular basis. You only stretch like a human mule after a receding corncob while pulling the heavy weight of your old tendencies behind you.

You try to be good, and often you can’t. You try to be loving and find at times your heart is hard like stone. Sometimes your projects fall down around your ears. You keep struggling and still you don’t break through. You understand the path is one of joy and yet your life seems to have been barren for a month or two, perhaps longer. Where did that early joy and zest go?

Hanging On

Up to this particular time there was joy, there was delight. But now there is only a hanging on, a dogged hanging on. You persist because you can’t conceive of going back to your old way of life. That seems impossible now. That would be like going to prison, living as if with a transorbital lobotomy.

You deeply want to have joy and fulfillment, easily manifest prosperity, but something’s not working. You don’t know what it is but something’s awry, and your meditations have lost their luster. Sometimes, during rare meditations, you do experience brief moments of peace. Your agonizing mind and heart rest from their turbulence and even these fleeting times of calm are so deeply appreciated. Your light dance of life, which had gone on for some time, is now a trudging in what seems a devastated and alien land.

Your fellow seekers look at you and show their concern. Their words of kindness are valued but you feel you’re somehow incapable of responding well. Your heart is numb. At these times your friends try to cheer you up. They invite you to dinner. You seem to perform fairly well, despite the emptiness you feel inside. What else is there to do? You wonder if you have any right to be in their fellowship at all. You think of leaving town, but where would you go? What good would diversion be?

A number of your friends in the fellowship of this great path know what you are going through for they have been through it themselves. They feel the main thing to do is encourage you to go on. They know if you keep it up and do not quit you will succeed. They know if you quit you will be a self-reject and will return to the old life, forever a foreigner, being neither at home with it nor at home anywhere else. They recognize that your own higher self, out of love, is lifting you up into its embrace.

They see you are being drawn into your dark night because:

1. your inner potential has great stature
2. your crusty, old ego requires you go through the dark night in order to be transformed.

You Feel Totally Alone

Other seekers, for various reasons, do not have to pass through the dark night. However, the dark night is your way.

Your night is a very difficult time. While others may one day envy you for the marvelous growth you experienced in such a short, intensified period, you will, because of the pain of your experience, always feel profound compassion for those whom you one day see going through a similar night.

Being caught between the old way of life and the new possibilities, your sense of alienation intensifies. Your sense of inadequacy and not knowing what to do next becomes gnawingly constant. You feel you would do anything to get out of this state, yet it is only your ego which is keeping you in it. However, this insight is impossible for you to grasp while going through your long night.

And you feel so totally alone. Sure, you have friends and you appreciate them, but you are keenly aware they are not capable of feeling what you are feeling or knowing what you are going through. Sometimes they seem like clowns, sometimes they seem empty-headed, caught up in meaningless pursuits. They do not understand, you think, how much you are suffering or how you cry out and pray deep into each midnight. You try their advice but it doesn’t seem to touch the heart of the matter.

You begin to enter the dark night in earnest when you feel completely stranded. In the fullness of the dark night you don’t know where you are spiritually. You’re separate from God and man. You do not know where to turn. Your friends love you and wish you well but your condition does not improve.

The dark night is a very private matter. The person in the dark night is generally able to function quite well despite inner suffering. Often your acquaintances never suspect that you are going through the dark night — they probably do not even know what it is. Only people close to you — especially friends along the path — can recognize your pain.

You feel like a hollow person doing the activities of life with no motivation except expediency. Your eyes seem deeper in your head. You are profoundly aware of the suffering of humanity and the cruelty of one person to another. You feel that cruelty and negativity far outweigh love and constructive action.

You Enter Midnight

Alone, and not wishing to be, unable even to express yourself to others, you enter midnight and the greatest intensity of the dark night. Here you have finally come to the time of sovereign solitude. In this precious time, which has no apparent prospects of love or happiness, you clearly perceive that nothing in the outer world has proven adequate to heal your condition. Nobody, not even your dearest friends and loved ones, can make you whole. Even if they have tried, and love you enough to try loving you forever, they can’t give you peace.

You eye your books and consider all the benefit you have gained from these extremely wise vessels of truth. Yet not one book, not one thought, goes deep enough inside you to where the affliction abides.

You look at your possessions, your money container. No material thing has been able to help you. No material means have worked. Nothing, no one, in the outer world has enabled you to come out of this dark night.

In your loneliness, you next — in a seemingly random process — notice that none of your thoughts have proven adequate to your suffering. Not one — even repeated fifty thousand times — breaks the inner storm and lets in light. God and higher consciousness seem so far away that perhaps they are unreal. Neither one has, despite your protracted exposure of yourself, done anything to ease or remove your agony. Nothing appears efficacious. Nothing works.

Clearly, there is nowhere to turn. There is nothing to be done. All actions you considered have been tried. There is nothing to think, nothing to feel, nothing to do, nowhere to go. It seems you have to accept this defeat — or, you can persist in struggling against it. For awhile longer, you go about thinking, feeling, and doing other options that occur to you. But you realize in the midnight of your soul that you have tried every option you know of.

The Peace Comes

Helpless, totally helpless, as well as ever so alone, you abide in this condition. And you accept your predicament. You accept that there is really, except for a murmured prayer to a remote Lord and a remnant of a shredded faith, nothing else left.

Suicide would be absurd. Suicide would be an act of arrogance and vanity. You have grown far beyond such primitive responses to your private agony. No, nothing to do. Nothing remains in this lonely helplessness. There is, without question, nothing you can do.

You abide. You accept your state. How have you gotten to this place? That’s insignificant. Musings and feelings aside, you wait. You feel you may have to stay this way forever, doing the regular day-to-day things, but in this mood of emptiness. Nothing. Nothing.

Then, it happens. A holy presence comes into your room — sweetly, softly. You feel it filling you. Your mind is filled with mellow or bright light. Your heart, your still heart, is permeated with peace. This peace moves through your body like a cold spring of mountain water. It flows in your spine, your brain, and under your skin. Everywhere.

Also, this presence, this comforter, moves like a breeze across your arid mind and numb heart. Then, or a few days later, the fire of joy begins to smoulder. Here, abiding with nothing more to do, your ego drops away! Your ignorant, arrogant, fearful sense of self falls away from you. You stand in light — a new being, a free being — transformed.

Your Ego Sense

Believe it or not, that’s what the dark night is all about: transformation. Your ego, your limited sense of self, your inadequate complex of ideas about who you are had to be dissolved. Your ego was, you begin to see, eclipsing higher consciousness and your true nature. Your old sense of self was inadequate to your new hopes and proper state. Your suffering intensified because of a major misapprehension. You were too used to thinking of yourself based on inputs from your previous experiences in life. On and on through life, you gathered information and responses from the world which indicated to you what kind of person you were and are. These superficial units of related inputs became integrated in what is called the ego — your sense of self, your sense of who you are. As long as you allowed this inaccurate or only partial sense of who you are to dominate, you could not know or abide in your true nature.

Your ego sense is so powerful — you invest it with so much of your thought and feeling — that your attitudes of life become based on an egocentric perspective. The ego gains a progressively greater foothold on your entire life because your basic attitudes about your existence and essential nature are strongly linked with ego.

Then, your ego sense, due to your suffering or your limitations in life, wants to have more power over circumstances and a more pleasant life. The ego sense often becomes motivated to seek higher consciousness and, thus, greater ability to dominate in life. Not always, but often, it is the ego sense which most eagerly pursues higher consciousness. It wants to be in charge; it wants to manipulate events and make life come out more to its satisfaction. But, as long as your ego dominates, it is on a collision course with your true nature and your higher consciousness. There’s going to be a showdown. There has to be a confrontation sometime if your higher consciousness is ever to emerge, if you are ever to know truly who you are and what your human capabilities are.

Furthermore — and this is extremely important, especially in understanding the dark night of the soul — your ego, as it develops from childhood onward, has the conviction that it is the doer. Generally, your ego assumes that it chooses what your mind will think, and chooses what your heart will feel. It feels it selects the various actions and activities you are going to undertake. Your sense of self, being convinced it is the doer, feels it accomplishes anything and everything in your life. Do you see, then, how the dark night develops? A false sense of self has been ignorantly and manipulatively standing in the way of enlightenment.

Additionally, until you are consolidated in higher consciousness, your ego can return and reestablish control if you let it. Sometimes when you’re fatigued or when you have special, new opportunities in life, you are vulnerable to the reestablishment of your ego and its opinion that it is in charge of doing everything. It will again eclipse the higher consciousness until you recognize what has happened. Then you must courageously and consciously reaffirm your true nature, and deal with the upstart, old ego. Otherwise, another dark night phase will again develop.

Attempts of the Ego

A person seeking higher consciousness is, in effect, and with intensity, seeking the transformation of his own ego. He is seeking to end the tyranny of the ego and abide in his true nature, instead of a false nature concocted through experiences and emotional inputs during the process of life. While it is true these inputs have a value in subjecting you to new experiences and so offer unique learning situations, they often give you a delusory sense of self. You are not your mistake. Even a murderer can change and become a new being.

Still, as you progress toward higher consciousness, your ego may not be humbling and daily transforming itself. You may, instead, have a highly developed ego which is sure that it is causing the events of higher consciousness to unfold bit by bit. Your ego, after all, can be very interested in the attributes of higher consciousness, in meditation and association with enlightened beings. Your ego feels gratification and satisfaction in moving on down the road toward higher consciousness.

Your ego may also have the opinion that, because of its grasp of matters, it will one day establish or — by its thought process and feelings —bring about enlightenment and awakening. It is convinced that it will achieve higher consciousness. This is ironic because by the time of the dark night, the ego is the main obstacle; it is the obstruction of the light of consciousness. It stands between you and your fulfillment. In fact, the length of your dark night is based on the truculence and cunning of your ego. It can fight a very lengthy battle if it fears it’s going to be destroyed or will have to give in to something so much greater than it knows itself to be.

Incredibly, your ego wants to be in on the act of enlightenment. Ego wants to bring about higher consciousness by its own dramatic means. Certainly, it doesn’t want to be granted fulfillment by a power outside of itself. Convinced that it is the doer, your ego holds on for dear life — until that event called the dark night of the soul, when your ego awakens to the profound fact it cannot cause or bring about higher consciousness.

Ego cannot, by its will or any other skills whatever, create the wholeness of heart which will end your deep suffering. In a sense your ego recognizes itself — in the dark night — to be the disease. It recognizes that its foothold on your mind and heart has, at an advanced stage on your path, proven a great numbing agent and a high stone wall against the light. Ego stands against the fulfillment of your faith and the realization of your profoundest yearnings. Finally your ego has found something it cannot do and, in the dark night of the soul, it becomes totally convinced it is inadequate. It cannot deal with your suffering or the fulfillment of the heart’s yearning. Nothing it can do, think, say, buy, or travel to, will in any way suffice.

Dawn of a New Life

Here in this dark night, the lifelong ego sense dies: impotent. Having fulfilled its part, now weak and incompetent, it is dissolved — transmuted. From a higher sense now awakening within you, you slough off your false sense of self. You now know yourself to be a different person than you thought you were. Your ego was merely experiencing some of the attributes, some of the qualities, of your true nature, while at the same time obstructing others.

You, in passing successfully through the dark night, enter the realms of higher consciousness. You’ve been cleansed of the most deep-rooted sickness: your ignorance of your true nature and your inadequate, often totally wrong opinion of who you are. You now cease your inner conflict and abide serenely in your true nature. The night is over. The dawn of a new life in higher consciousness transforms your bleak life of the past few months into one with a heavenly nature. You have been delivered of the intolerable bondage to ego.

Henceforth, you will walk the earth seeing others afresh, living a new life, and abiding in your true nature. You have become a son or daughter of higher consciousness. Now your words and actions will be attuned with your true self. Now you express inspiration and comfort.

The dark night has passed. It is over.

Here, I’d like to talk about the sacred Self; the soul Self; the Atman; whatever you want to call the omnipotent consciousness that exists within, which we can embrace once we know a little bit about it.

The sacred Self (or simply the ‘Self’) is an aspect of Source, and we’ll have to transcend the influence of the ego if we want to open up to it.

The ego, which is a program of the otherwise benevolent mind, will keep us from discovering and embracing the Self if we allow it, and given that we have a lot of work to do to change the defunct manner in which our planet’s run, transcending the ego is among the best things we can do for ourselves and the people around us.

The rest of the world will benefit when we can move beyond the ego and into a place of pure, blissful submergence in the Self, and as consciousness continues to rise, more people will become aware of spirit and the necessity to embrace the infinite Self over the finite, ego-driven self we’ve become accustomed to.

I think it’s important for those of us who’ve become aware to continuously transcend the ego’s influence and put ourselves in a loving, heart-centered space where we can connect with the Self, and until we do, the collective vibration will remain low.

The work we do to bring ourselves and our planet into the light is important, and opening up to the Self will help us with our quest to enlighten ourselves and, eventually, everyone else who’s ready for enlightenment.

Master Lin-Chi describes the Self.

“’Spread it out and it fills the whole Dharma-realm, gather it up and it’s tinier than a thread of hair.’ Its lone brightness gleaming forth, it has never lacked anything. ‘The eye doesn’t see it, the ear doesn’t hear it.’ What shall we call this thing? … You’ll just have to see it for yourselves. What other way is there?”

The Self is basically unperceivable with the physical senses, and it exists within, waiting for us to pick up on its existence. We’ll have to transcend our sense-based perception if we want to perceive the Self, and this goes hand-in-hand with transcending the ego and opening up to Source.

Only when our perception is focused on the spiritual realms will we perceive the Self, and things will flow like never before when we can do this. Our creativity will definitely be sharper, because the Self is nothing if not creative.

I’m reminded of a story about a man who raised his Kundalini to his crown and experienced enlightenment. The experience was so intense that he basically descended into madness for a great number of years before emerging from it to find the greatest spiritual perception he could hope to have.

His creativity flowed, and our creativity can flow in a similar way if we make an effort to perceive the Self.

The more we search for the sacred Self, Lin Chi tells us, the further we distance ourselves from it.

“Right now, all this dashing and searching you’re doing — do you know what it is you’re looking for? It is vibrantly alive, yet has no root or stem.

“You can’t gather it up, you can’t scatter it to the winds. The more you search for it the farther away it gets. But don’t search for it and it’s right before your eyes, its miraculous sound always in your ears. But if you don’t have faith, you’ll spend your hundred years in wasted labor.”

However difficult the sacred Self might be to perceive, it exists within and waits to be picked up on so we can enjoy the perceptual bounties that result. This extended and advanced facet of our consciousness has a lot to offer us, because it essentially is us in a higher form.

The Atman (or the Self) is the revealer of all things, Shankara tells us.

“The Atman is the witness, infinite consciousness, revealer of all things but distinct from all… whether they be gross or subtle.

“It is the eternal reality, omnipresent, all-pervading, the subtlest of subtleties. It has neither inside nor outside. It is the real I, hidden in the shrine of the heart. Realize fully the truth of the Atman. Be free from evil and impurity, and you shall pass beyond death.”

The Self will seem too far away for us to grasp if we feed into vanity, materialism or anything else that keeps us from exploring our spirituality. If we can open up to the Self by transcending any limiting or distracting qualities, however, it’ll seem closer than ever because, in a sense, it will be.

We draw closer to the Self every time we refuse to feed the cultural tendencies that distract us, and when we successfully lighten our vibration, we’ll see how important it was to refrain from choosing vanity over spirituality.

For every lower quality, there’s a higher quality to match it, so let’s embrace the higher qualities inherent in everything around us instead of continuing to live below our potential by knowingly feeding qualities that hold us back. Even though walking tends to be easier, we’re on this planet to fly.

Shankara also encourages us to embrace the transcendent nature of the Self.

“Meditate upon the truth that the Atman is ‘neither gross nor subtle, neither short nor tall’, that it is self-existent, free as the sky, beyond the grasp of thought.”

The Self isn’t limited by the qualities that inhibit us here on earth, and instead, it’s free to move around as it pleases. It’s liberated from every lower-vibrational quality that holds us back, and we have to put ourselves on the same level if we want to align with it.

We have to embrace the qualities that help the Self thrive if we want to access it, and we’ll be glad we employed whatever disciplines were necessary for us to connect with it. We’ll see how much this connection strengthened our creativity and our general spiritual perception, and after getting a taste of the perceptions of the Self, we’ll never want to go back.

In our final quote, Ibn Arabi tells us that the sacred Self encompasses everything in existence.

“The Qualified Total Spirit [is] the Vice-regent. It has no bodily shape and it is not even outside this universe and its heavens, but it encompasses all existence and therein it is present and in control. In relation to it, the highest top and the bottom of the bottom are the same.

“It is present in every one of those degrees. … It cannot be parcelled out or partitioned. If the skies fell in and the earth shattered, nothing would happen to it.”

Given that we’re all aspects of Source’s omnipotent consciousness, it makes sense that the Self essentially is the Source of existence; our creator in a different form. I think this makes connecting with the Self even more desirable, and in time, I’m sure everyone will realize it exists and connect with it.

We can then take it upon ourselves to address and heal everything about this planet that keeps us from thriving, and we’ll do it with the strength and support of the Self, which we’ll all have connected with.

Connecting with the Self might not be easy, but we’ll be glad we made an effort when our minds and hearts are open and we’re awash in ecstatic bliss.

When we can make this connection, we’ll see that we’re never left alone to deal with the pains and stresses that come with living on earth. A lot of teachers have used their connection to show the way for others, and we can connect with our Self just like they’ve connected with theirs.

I think more people will make this connection in due time, but for now, those of us who are starting to make it can raise awareness of its benefits. This is one of the reasons we’re here, and the more people who connect with the Self, the more people who’ll be motivated to share their discoveries with the rest of the world.

The spirit world, also known as the mirror world, is the authentic underlying truth of humanity’s collective evolution. It contains humanity’s truest feelings, ideas, beliefs, and sacred consciousness. The subconscious of humanity was placed inside of beings who are dreamers, people who are capable of holding space and making life sacred again. These are the mamas and the papas, the sacred indigo children, the seers, the navigators, the creators, and the lovers of life. These are the dancers of space and time that shake rattles in their eyes and bring you back to life when they crack a smile.

Each and every human being, every plant, animal, or element of creation has a mirror world/spirit world identity. We exist as multidimensional beings with interior and exterior landscapes. We are capable of manifesting the sacred dream, of transforming nightmares into journeys through bliss gardens, and of healing ourselves above and below, within and throughout our eternal beings. Contained within the authentic mirror world are the spiritual imprints and collective light and dark of every individual human being. These gather together to create actual dimensions that encapsulate emotions, feelings, thoughts, imagery, and events.

The dimensions within these spirit worlds can be journeyed to and through in meditation, and they can be studied and used as tools for an individual’s continued evolution and growth. Within each dimension are contained the coordinates of heavens and hells, of gravity or zero gravity, of grace and forgiveness, of darkness and despair. We are traveling to and through heavens and hells moment to moment. Life and death are part of the same continuum. We are not born and we do not die; instead, we exist as eternal beings participating in an ongoing epic evolution. This evolution is sustained by the spiritual mirror worlds which are paramount to the renewal and resurrection of humanity and nature.

Heaven and hell are not realms that we approach at the moment of death or near death. They are accessed with every imprint that your thoughts and feelings create on life as you journey about your day from place to place, from person to person. We have the potential to create heaven on earth only because we breath gravity and life force into the dimensions and realms that we inhabit with our collective energy output or input. As we change our interior landscape to match the vibrations and frequencies of celestial places, we change our external landscape. We alter the field, we change the course or the wave of humanity’s collective evolution, and we find that we are contributing to something greater than ourselves.

Mind your thoughts and feelings, as they form the path-less-traveled that carries you safely home to a warm embrace, a soft kiss, sunlight on tender skin, water running over sacred stones, and the breath of life that sustains you… moment to moment.

Most people, especially in America, are consuming a diet that is detrimental to our spiritual growth. With the influx of low vibratory foods (ie. fast food, sodas, microwave dinners, sugars etc.), we are contracting more diseases and evolving slower spiritually than we have to.

There are two types of foods: acid-forming or alkaline-forming. The differences between the two are like night and day. Or, diseased and not diseased. Or, a healthy pineal gland versus a overly calcified pineal gland.

Your body is designed for your blood pH balance to be between 7.35-7.45. Too much acid in the blood causes imbalance and eventually, diseases and further calcification of the pineal gland. Whenever you eat something that is incomplete (not wholesome) and acidic, your body has to pull the nutrients out of your body’s minerals to try to neutralize the acidity.

A high level of spiritual growth through pineal gland decalcification can be gained by eating more alkaline foods. Look at it as alkaline charges you up while acid drains your power. The following list will provide you with a number of food options that will help you charge up your third eye and re-gain your innate spiritual power!

Once you begin to consume more alkaline foods you will start to increase your intuition, “psychic” powers, dreams, calmness, peace of mind, happiness, creativity, and overall energy!

Note: Green supplements are a wonderful addition to any diet to get more chlorophyll and alkalinity. Be sure to check out our Superfoods in our online store

About the List

The foods listed below are all alkaline-forming. There is a difference between acid-forming and alkaline-forming. A citrus fruit like an orange is acidic but when your body assimilates it, it leaves an alkaline ash. Therefore, the orange is an alkaline-forming fruit.

This list is a combination of all the research and experiences I’ve had. There may be other foods that are not listed but that just means it slipped my eye. The important thing is that we make a conscious effort to consume as much alkaline-forming foods as possible.

Please share this list with everyone you know!

Drunvalo Melchizedek who channels the ascended masters and other higher dimensional intelligences speaks to Lilou Mace ... discusses the 3 different kinds of electricity ... Tesla ... Merkaba ... creating from the sacred space in our hearts,

Living from the mind and not the heart keeps us polarized, in an ego state. At the heart level we are all connected its only when we operate from the ego, the mind we remain in the illusion of separation. Its the heart that actually is looking through the awakenened third eye rather than the mind.

... Greetings Dear One ...

Trust all has been well on your journey so far, in spite of the occasional topsy turvy rides life has to offer, bringing forth some new lessons for us to glean from. We might have been born and brought up in an environment where we were kept aloof and isolated from the pain and suffering of other animals who are killed to become food on our plates. We might find many reasons to justify why its ok for us humans to kill animals or take part in the consumption of their meat, fooling ourselves to believe that is the way mankind has lived for a long time.

By being part of the problem we are unconsciously intertwining our lives karmically with those of the animals, which are equally as important to the ecosystem as we are. Our continual onslaught on animals and its causative effect is a sign, a wake up call for humanity to change its ways before Earth decides to take out the trash. If we continue this destructive way of being, the spirit of Gaia will have no option left but to cleanse the negativity. Human pain is no different and no special as compared to Animals or other conscious beings who also feel emotions.

The recent Earthquakes in Nepal are a sign of Mother Nature responding to the pain of thousands of animals slaughtered mercilessly to please a Goddess. What we did was displease the Earth Goddess, Gaia, Spirit of Earth.

Here is an article which you might resonate with about why we should avoid killing animals ...

Animal Activist Board

A student asked whether to be on the board of an activist group that saves animals, but sometimes employs violent tactics as a form of protest. Rinpoche gave the following advice.

If you become part of an organization where humans can be killed, then that is more extreme than killing the animals, which is already so bad. Maybe it’s better not to be on the board.

Animal Sacrifice in Nepal [posted July 2011]

Rinpoche gave the following advice to center directors and students regarding animal sacrifice for a Hindu festival in Nepal.

Dear center directors, students and friends,

You might have heard the news about the 500,000 animals that are going to be sacrificed over two days on 24 November (the Gadhimai animal sacrifice festival, which happens every five years in Nepal.)

The Buddha boy wrote to the organizers asking them not to do it, but his request was rejected. It is a big Hindu festival, and now the Buddha boy is thinking to go there and try to stop it. I think unless you have special powers to display, people will not listen. It is a big religion, with not one hundred or one thousand followers, but millions. Now it seems to have become a problem in Nepal, like the problem with shoes and Hindus in Pashupati. Now, probably no matter what the reality is, they will think it is the Buddhists who are making problems.

My observation shows that the Buddha boy won't be able to stop it. Possibly some animal rights organizations might be able to help, but it's not certain. If Western organizations and people like Nobel Peace laureates ask, maybe it could help, but it would need many people.

It came out good to read the Golden Light Sutra one hundred times, so I have asked Kopan gompa to send some monks to read it at the stupa and make strong prayers for the sacrifice not to happen, to dedicate like that, and of course dedicate for world peace.

I would like to request the centers and students to read the Golden Light Sutra and recite the Padmasambhava prayer for removing obstacles and for quick success, for the sacrifice not to happen. This needs to be done quickly as the sacrifice is happening on 24 November.

Please recite any number of the Golden Light Sutra and the Padmasambhava prayer for removing obstacles and for quick success.

With much love and prayers...

The Karma of Killing Animals
[Posted: Jan 2006]
Rinpoche gave the following advice about killing animals.
Animals have feelings. They have the same mind as we have, and also want happiness, like we do. For example, if you suddenly touch them, they are immediately frightened. They get frightened if somebody beats or hits them with a stick. We also get frightened. If somebody throws cold water on our body, suddenly we feel a shock. It is the same for animals. They have the same mind, and it is very important what happens to them.

Even if they can’t speak, can’t express themselves, animals can show their fear through their body. For example, they try to run away. Human beings can talk and complain, and they can bring court cases. Human beings can report things to the police. Human beings can do so much, but animals can’—they can do nothing. They can’t express their suffering. Human beings can talk about their fears. Whether other people accept your suffering or not, at least you can explain it and the other person can hear. Animals can’t, but you can see how they feel from their movements. If someone tries to attack them, they run away. They are afraid, which means they want happiness and not suffering. This is a very important point, that they have the same mind as us. If you kill them, you create the negative karma to be like them. For one hundred thousand lifetimes, you will have the karma to be born as an animal. For many thousands of lifetimes, you will suffer the consequences.

It is said in the teachings that if you kill one animal, because of that karma, you will be killed five hundred times by others. You will suffer in very hot hell realm for one thousand eons. It is also good to ask yourself how it would be if somebody killed you with a knife. How would you feel in that situation? For example, if you put your finger in hot water, can you bear that? You can’t bear it. It’s the same when you kill animals. There is no good result from it. There is no question about that.

Karma of Killing

Rinpoche gave the following advice to a student who had a pet snake, to whom he fed live mice.

My very dear Martin,

I have something to talk to you about, heart to heart, dealing with the suffering of animals. I heard that you have a pet snake, and that you have to feed the snake with mice. As you love the snake, of course you also have to love the mouse. The mouse is also looking for happiness and doesn't want to suffer. The mouse needs love from you, and wants help from you.

Also, it is mentioned in the teachings of the Buddha about the karma of killing. If you kill one sentient being, then for 500 lifetimes you will be killed by others. This is the result of one negative karma of killing. This is also explained by the fact that karma is expandable. If you plant one Bodhi tree seed the size of the tip of your finger, then from that comes many thousands of branches. All of that comes from one seed. Huge trees all grow from small seeds. So, you can get extremely large results from one small cause. In terms of our inner evolution, the effect is much greater. Not only does one suffer for many lifetimes, but the negative karma of killing obscures the mind. It becomes an obstacle to developing loving kindness and compassion for living beings, to developing the altruistic mind to attain enlightenment in order to liberate sentient beings, and to achieving liberation by removing the gross and subtle obscurations and therefore to achieving enlightenment. Therefore, we can’t do perfect work for sentient beings by freeing them from suffering and bringing them to enlightenment.

All of this comes from negativity such as killing. Because the motivation is non-virtuous, then the action becomes non-virtuous, negative karma. This obscures the mind, and then it is difficult to see the reality, the ultimate nature of the “I,” and the nature of one’s own mind. One is unable to realize this. Without the wisdom realizing that nature, there is no other realization that can illuminate the root of the sufferings of samsara, and the root of delusion and karma, that ignorance of not knowing the nature of the self and mind. Without that wisdom, you can’t cut the root of samsaric suffering, the cause and there is no way to liberate yourself from delusion and karma—no end to samsara. You have to suffer endlessly. Then, you can’t liberate others from samsaric suffering and its cause.

So, if you have to take care of the snake, and the snake doesn’t eat vegetarian food, you have to engage in killing. That is discriminating. You give love to the snake but not to the mouse. They all want happiness and do not want to suffer, and they all want you to give them love. If you let the snake go, it will kill other animals. The solution, either way, is problematic.

The solution is to develop your mind on the path as quickly as possible, to liberate yourself from karma and delusion, enter the Mahayana path, and eliminate the subtle defilements so you have omniscient mind and are able to read all sentient beings’ minds. You are able to see their karma, wishes, characteristics, level of intelligence, and are able to see directly all the methods to help them. You have perfect power, and compassion for all living beings without discrimination. You can do perfect work for all sentient beings. You can liberate them by having all the means, especially bringing them from happiness to happiness, up to full enlightenment. You don’t have to reincarnate again and again in samsara and experience so much suffering of hunger, thirst, hot, and cold. Meditate on the fact that all happiness depends on so many sentient beings. For example, when a house is built, many worms and ants have to be killed. Many hardships are experienced by those beings. Again, for food and clothing, many beings have to be killed. For one plate of rice, so many beings have to be killed. It is the same with our clothes made of silk or animal skins. Many beings have to suffer for our comfort and survival. If you liberate yourself and don’t have to reincarnate, then there is so much relief for sentient beings, so many sentient beings don’t have to suffer. You are liberated from samsara, and you are freeing other beings from having to suffer. By revealing methods, especially by revealing Dharma, you can liberate many beings and bring them to enlightenment.

The conclusion is that we can do practices now to liberate these animals from the realms of suffering. It is the same for hell beings and hungry ghosts. This is the solution, so that they don’t have to suffer for a long time through killing each other. We should focus on this method to liberate these beings as much as possible, so they don’t have to suffer. This is only through practicing Dharma. This is my advice to you.

Probably the best thing is to let the animals go and pray for their higher rebirth. You can do meditation practice to purify negative karma and pray for higher rebirths. You can chant the five powerful mantras and dedicate them to their higher rebirth and to meeting the Dharma. This is one small example of how you can benefit them.

Practice not harming others, and benefiting them as much as one can. You can reveal the wisdom of Dharma and educate other people in this way. This brings peace and happiness to oneself and others. You and others don’t have to be born in the lower realms. Even if they aren’t liberated from suffering and its causes and don’t get enlightened in this lifetime, they can still achieve all the causes enlightenment in the future.

So, please practice compassion for others. From that comes not harming others, and the thought to benefit others. Since you are a good-hearted, good-natured person, this is my humble advice to you.

It is good to know more how to benefit others, how to fully liberate them, how to achieve a good rebirth in your next life, liberation from samsara, and also full enlightenment. You can recite prayers and mantras so that animals can hear them. It would be good, according to my observations, to recite the mantra of Maitreya Buddha. The benefits of reciting this mantra are:

1. You are never born in the lower realms.

2. You will have continuous material and mental prosperity.

3. You will be born as a wheel turning king in future lives for thousands of eons (according to the life of a deva, which is much longer than a human life). A wheel turning king has the most power and wealth in one universe. He is unique in that universe, the only one.

4. You will abide in the 10 virtuous actions.

5. Even if you are not enlightened during Buddha Shakyamuni’s time, you will be born as one of the first disciples at the time of Maitreya Buddha. You will receive a prediction of your enlightenment from Maitreya Buddha. Sooner or later you will achieve enlightenment.

Reciting this mantra would be most beneficial for all beings, not just your snake.

Another mantra to recite is the Stainless Pinnacle mantra. It is extremely powerful and also a great healing mantra. If a fully ordained monk broke his root vows and was destined to go to the lower realms, this mantra would release him from the lower realms.

Buddha Shakymuni told Ananda that anyone who hears the Medicine Buddha mantra would not be born in the lower realms. Reciting it every day frees you from all suffering and brings every benefit, including success in this life, up to enlightenment.

The essence of the Buddha’s 84,000 teachings are the teachings of the Prajñaparamita—this is the heart of the Buddha’s teachings. There are many volumes in the Prajñaparamita, the elaborate version which has 12 volumes, the middle version which has 3 volumes, and the short version which has 80,000 stanzas. The very heart of it is called the Heart of the Wisdom. This is the teaching that Buddha cherishes the most because it is the method to release sentient beings from the suffering of samsara, and its root: ignorance. When you have time it is good to recite the whole prayer. If not, then just recite the mantra.

Also, to help guide you on the foundation of the path to liberation and enlightenment, it is good to read any of the short lam-rim prayers, to plant the seed of the whole path.

Another way to benefit animals is to take them around holy objects, such as statues, stupas, and scriptures, especially those containing relics and mantras. Take your snake around these holy objects as much as you can. Make prayers to achieve bodhicitta for the snake and all sentient beings. Make a prayer to realize emptiness.

“In all my lives, may I never be separated from the victorious one, Lama Tsongkhapa, acting in person as the Mahayana guru,
May I, my family, friends, and all other sentient beings never turn aside, even for an instant,
From the excellent path praised by the victorious ones.”

Pray that the snakes and all beings, when they die, are immediately born in a Pure Land or obtain a precious human rebirth, meet a perfectly qualified Mahayana guru, practice the path, and obtain all realizations. It is good to do this for anyone for whom you want to pray. Then it is excellent to dedicate in the following way:

“Due to the merits of the three times created by me, buddhas, bodhisattvas, and all other sentient beings, wherever I am—whatever universe, world, country, area, or place, just by my being there in that universe, world, country, area, or place, may those beings purify their negative karma and never be born in the evil realms. May this cause them to have faith in refuge and karma, and to generate loving kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta immediately in their hearts, and immediately heal all their sickness and free them from spirit harm. May it cause great bliss in the hearts of those affected by depression, and people suffering from relationship problems. May it fill up their hearts with incredible joy, and all peace and happiness. And may it cause them to have a most meaningful life by actualizing the path. May suffering be pacified, and those needing money find wealth. May they realize that the purpose of their lives is to actualize the path to enlightenment. May those looking for a guru find a most qualified guru and those wanting teachings receive perfect teachings and achieve realizations. May those wishing to do retreat find a place to meditate and achieve all realizations. May they never experience war, disease, torture, poverty, the dangers of fire, water, earthquakes, and all natural disasters. May I become wish-fulfilling for all sentient beings.

May nothing become negative karma, and everything become Dharma. May all beings achieve enlightenment quickly, by actualizing the path.

Due to the merits of the three times created by me, buddhas, bodhisattvas, and all other sentient beings, which exist, but do not exist from their own side, may I, who exists, but does not exist from my own side, achieve Guru Shakymuni Buddha’s enlightenment, which exists, but does not exist from its own side, and lead all sentient beings, who exist, but do not exist from their own side, to enlightenment by myself alone.

Just as the brave Manjushri and Samantabhadra too,
Realized things as they are,
I, too, dedicate all these merits in the best way,
That I may follow their perfect example.

May the teachings spread in all directions and flourish in this world, in my mind and in the minds of all sentient beings.”

By circumambulating animals around holy objects and reciting mantras to them, we help them achieve good rebirths, meet the teachings, achieve liberation and then enlightenment. They can purify every trace of negativity, the seeds and their imprints. They are able to complete all the realizations of love, wisdom, and power, and so do perfect work for others.

You should recite prayers and mantras verbally, aloud, so that they leave positive imprints on their minds, to help them achieve enlightenment—that which is the cessation of all stains of the mind, gross and subtle, and completes all the realizations—the fully perfected state of mind, peerless happiness.

It would be much better to buy meat from a shop for your snake. You could try to disguise it is a mouse, and although the snake still has some karma of killing, it would not be complete. Also, if you give a toy mouse to your snake, he might learn that mice are no longer edible, and maybe he will not want to eat them any more.

I hope you don’t collapse or faint, overwhelmed with all this advice.

With much love and prayer...

Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche

"Indigo Children" is the name given to a very special group of beings who have chosen to incarnate on our planet with a specific mission and purpose.

The name "Indigo Child" refers to the soul color of Indigo, which indicates a Master Soul who serves as a teacher or healer. Every Indigo Child will undertake this mission of teaching or healing in some way, often merely by being who he or she is.

Indigos have been coming to our planet for a long time. Some argue that Jesus and Buddha were Indigos, since their mission, on a global scale, was to teach and heal, and to shift the consciousness of humanity.

In the recent past, Indigos began to incarnate on the planet in increasing numbers after World War II, in preparation for the global shift that we are now experiencing. They incarnated among the "baby boom" generation of the fifties and were born to the "flower children" of the sixties. However, at this stage there was not a sufficient number of them on the planet to create significant changes.

Then, in the 1970s, the first generational "wave" of Indigo Children arrived. These beings are now in their late twenties and early thirties, and are the real "warrior" generation who have begun the process of challenging and shifting old systems.

They were followed in the eighties and nineties by Indigos of increasing sensitivity and refinement, until the late 1990s and early 2000s when they were joined by the Crystal Children, a different kind of spiritual warrior.

How to Recognize an Indigo

I am often asked in the course of my work how to recognize an Indigo.

The obvious answer would be to check the aura color. But no, not all Indigos have dark blue auras all the time. The term "Indigo" refers to a soul state and not to an aura color, which in the average human changes from day to day depending on mood and interest. Clairvoyants who read soul states may be able to identify Indigos.

However, it is easy to identify an Indigo by their sensitivity, creativity, spirituality and general behavioral patterns.

As children, they look much like other children, although they are often physically beautiful with penetrating eyes. They are always highly intelligent and full of questions and demands. They are energetic and active and have strong wills and a strong sense of their own value and importance. They know that they are special and that they are here to do something significant.

They are right-brain oriented, and are generally attracted to right-brain pursuits such as music, art, writing and spirituality. They love crystals and reiki and meditation and yoga.

They are very passionate and intensely loyal to their friends, of whom they often have many. They believe in honesty and communication in relationships. They are often baffled by dishonesty and manipulation and other forms of selfish behavior deemed normal by their elders.

Their attitude towards money is either to reject it as unnecessary or to be very aware of its power and to seek, often successfully, to create affluence for themselves.

A key feature of Indigos is often anger. They will not be ordered around by so-called "authority figures". On a deep level, Indigos do not recognize "authority". They know we are all equal, and so they are enraged by those who assume authority and behave dictatorially, whether they are parents, teachers or bosses.

This is where they are important as teachers - they are teaching us to own our own power and to respect ourselves, by not giving away our power to those who demand it.

They are teaching us further to value our creative and spiritual selves and not to place so much value on material success.

If you feel you resonate with some of the things said above, chances are bright you are an Indigo too ... just like many of us here, trying to find the others .... and boy, we have found others just like you and me .... going through similar challenges in life .... and all we need to do is remember who we really are ... and keep shining ......

We came across an interesting article on some of the challenges some of us Indigos face on Earth School .... :)

Indigo Children: Symptoms Of Spiritual Awakening by Annarita
30 January 2010 at 14:02
Symptoms of Spiritual Awakening by Annarita

1 Changing sleep patterns: restlessness, hot feet, waking up two or three times a night. Feeling tired after you wake up and sleepy off and on during the day. There is something called the Triad Sleep Pattern that occurs for many: you sleep for about 2-3 hours, wake up, go back to sleep for another couple of hours, wake again, and go back to sleep again. For others, the sleep requirements have changed. You can get by on less sleep. Lately I have been experiencing huge waves of energy running into my body from the crown. It feels good, but it keeps me awake for a long time, then subsides. Advice: Get used to it. Make peace with it and don't worry about getting enough sleep (which often causes more insomnia). You will be able to make it through the day if you hold thoughts of getting just what you need. You can also request your Higher Power to give you a break now and then and give you a good, deep night's sleep. If you can't go back to sleep right away, use the waking moments to meditate, read poetry, write in your journal or look at the moon. Your body will adjust to the new pattern.

2 Activity at the crown of the head: Tingling, itching, prickly, crawling sensations along the scalp and/or down the spine. A sense of energy vibrating on top of the head, as if energy is erupting from the head in a shower. Also the sensation of energy pouring in through the crown, described as "sprinkles". This may also be experienced as pressure on the crown, as if someone is pushing his/her finger into the center of your head. As I mentioned in #1, I have been experiencing huge downloads of energy through the crown. In the past, I have felt more generalized pressure, as if my head is in a gentle vise. One man related that his hair stood on end and his body was covered with goosebumps. Advice: This is nothing to be alarmed about. What you are experiencing is an opening of the crown chakra. The sensations mean that you are opening up to receive divine energy.

3 Sudden waves of emotion. Crying at the drop of a hat. Feeling suddenly angry or sad with little provocation. Or inexplicably depressed. Then very happy. Emotional roller coaster. There is often a pressure or sense of emotions congested in the heart chakra (the middle of the chest). This is not to be confused with the heart, which is located to the left of the heart chakra. Advice: Accept your feelings as they come up and let them go. Go directly to your heart chakra and feel the emotion. Expand it outward to your all your fields and breathe deeply from the belly all the way up to your upper chest. Just feel the feeling and let it evaporate on its own. Don't direct the emotions at anyone. You are cleaning out your past. If you want some help with this, say out loud that you intend to release all these old issues and ask your Higher Power to help you. You can also ask Grace Elohim to help you release with ease and gentleness. Be grateful that your body is releasing these emotions and not holding onto them inside where they can do harm. One source suggests that depression is linked to letting go of relationships to people, work, etc. that no longer match us and our frequencies. When we feel guilty about letting go of these relationships, depression helps us medicate that pain.

4 Old "stuff" seems to be coming up, as described above, and the people with whom you need to work it out (or their clones) appear in your life. Completion issues. Or perhaps you need to work through issues of self-worth, abundance, creativity, addictions, etc. The resources or people you need to help you move through these issues start to appear. Advice: Same as #3. Additionally, don't get too involved in analyzing these issues. Examining them too much will simply cycle you back through them over and over again at deeper and deeper levels. Get professional help if you need to and walk through it. Do not try to avoid them or disassociate yourself from them. Embrace whatever comes up and thank it for helping you move ahead. Thank your Higher Power for giving you the opportunity to release these issues. Remember, you don't want these issues to stay stuck in your body.

5 Changes in weight. The weight gain in the US population is phenomenal. Other people may be losing weight. We often gain weight because many fears we have suppressed are now coming up to the surface to be healed. We react by building up a defense. We also attempt to ground ourselves or provide bulk against increasing frequencies in our bodies. Advice: Don't freak out, but just accept it as a symptom of where you are right now. You will release/gain the weight when all your fears have been integrated. Release your anxiety about this. Then you might find it easier to lose/gain the weight eventually. Exercise. Before eating, try this: Sit at the table with an attractive place setting. Light a candle. Enjoy how the food looks. Place your dominant hand over your heart and bless the food. Tell your body that you are going to use the food to richly nourish it, but that you are not going to use the food to fulfill your emotional hungers. Then pass your hand from left to right over the food and bless it. You may notice that the food feels warm to your hand even if the food is cold-- I like to think that the food is good for me when it feels warm and nourishing to my hand. I have also noticed that when I practice blessing the food, I don't eat as much. It is important not to let yourself off the hook when you forget to bless the food before you eat. If I've forgotten and I've nearly finished eating, I bless the food anyway. That way I don't slip out of the habit. Another thing you can do is to stay present while eating -- don't watch TV or read. Heartily enjoy what blessings are before you.

6 Changes in eating habits: Strange cravings and odd food choices. Some find they are not as hungry as they used to be. Or hungrier. Advice: Don't deny what your body tells you it needs. If you are not sure, you might try muscle-testing before you chose a food to see if it's what your body wants. Also try blessing the food as described in #5.

7 Food intolerances, allergies you never had before: As you grow more spiritual, you are more sensitive to everything around you. Your body will tell you what it can no longer tolerate, as if it, too, is sloughing off what doesn't serve it anymore. You might be cleansing yourself of toxins. Some people find they often have a white residue in their mouth, much like that of runners at the end of a race. Advice: An acupuncturist told me that this film can be removed by sloshing 2 tablespoons of cold-pressed olive oil in your mouth for 10-15 minutes (don't swallow, whatever you do), then spitting it out into the toilet -- not the sink, for you just removed toxins from your body and don't want them in the sink. Brush your teeth and do the same. Then clean your brush. (Sorry this is yukky, but it works.)

8 Amplification of the senses. Increased sensitivity. 8a. Sight: Blurry vision, shimmering objects, seeing glittery particles, auras around people, plants, animals, and objects. Some report seeing formerly opaque objects as transparent. When you close your eyes, you no longer see darkness, but redness. You may also see geometric shapes or brilliant colors and pictures when eyes are closed. Colors appear more vivid -- the sky might look teal or the grass an amazing green. Often I see grids running across the ground. As you become more sensitive, you may see shapes or outlines in the air, especially when the room is almost dark. When your eyes are open or closed, you may see white shapes in your peripheral vision (these are your guides). Advice: Your vision is changing in many ways -- you are experiencing new ways of seeing. Be patient. Whatever you do, do not be afraid. Hazy vision maybe relieved by yawning. 8b. Hearing: Increased or decreased hearing. I once thought I would have to pull off the road because of the painfully amplified sound of my tires on the freeway. Other symptoms are hearing white noise in the head, beeps, tones, music or electronic patterns. Some hear water rushing, bees buzzing, whooshing, roaring or ringing. Others have what is called audio dyslexia-- you can't always make out what people are saying, as if you can no longer translate your own language. Some hear strange voices in their dreams, as if someone is hovering near them. You can either ask the presence(s) to leave or ask Archangel Michael to take care of the situation. Again, there is nothing to fear. Advice: Surrender to it. Let it come through. Listen. Your ears are adjusting to new frequencies. 8c. Enhanced senses of smell, touch, and/or taste. I notice I can now smell and taste chemical additives in some foods in a rather unpleasant manner. Other food may taste absolutely wonderful. For some people, these enhancements are both delightful and distracting. You might even smell the fragrance of flowers now and then. Many of the mystics did. Enjoy it.

9 Skin eruptions: Rashes, bumps, acne, hives, and shingles. Anger produces outbreaks around the mouth and chin. I had a dermatitis on my extremities for several months that accompanied healing an episode from my past. When I had worked through most of the issue, the condition was released. Advice: You may be sloughing off toxins and bringing emotions to the surface. When there is an issue to be released and you are trying to repress it, your skin will express the issue for you until you process the emotions. Work through your "stuff".

10 Episodes of intense energy which make you want to leap out of bed and into action. Followed by periods of lethargy and fatigue. The fatigue usually follows great shifts. This is a time of integration, so give into it. Advice: Roll with the nature of the energy. Don't fight it. Be gentle with yourself. Take naps if you are tired. Write your novel if you are too energized to sleep. Take advantage of the type of energy.

11 Changes in prayer or meditation. Not feeling the same sensations as before. Not having the same experience of being in contact with Spirit. Difficulty in focusing. Advice: You may be in more instant and constant communion with Spirit now and the sensation may therefore be altered. You will adapt to this new feeling. You are actually thinking and acting in partnership with Spirit most of the time now. You may find your meditation periods shorter.

12 Power surges: All of a sudden you are heated from head to toe. It is a momentary sensation, but uncomfortable. In contrast, some people have felt inexplicably cold. I have experienced both. More recently I experience waves or currents of energy rolling through me. Sometimes the energy seems so intense when it first comes into my body that I feel a little nauseated. But if I think of the energy as divine and let go of fear, I feel wonderful and enjoy the sensation. If you are an energy worker, you may have noticed that the heat running through your hands has increased tremendously. This is good. Advice: If you are uncomfortable, ask your Higher Power, that if it be for your best and highest good, to turn down/up the temperature a bit.

13 A range of physical manifestations: Headaches, backaches, neck pains, flu-like symptoms (this is called vibrational flu), digestive problems, muscular spasms or cramps, racing heartbeat, chest pains, changes in sexual desire, numbness or pain in the limbs, and involuntary vocalizations or bodily movements. Some of us have even had old conditions from childhood reappear briefly for healing. Advice: Remember what I said about seeking medical help if you need it! If you have determined that this is not a medical condition, relax in the realization that it is only temporary.

14 Looking younger. Yippee! As you clear emotional issues and release limiting beliefs and heavy baggage from the past, you are actually lighter. Your frequency is higher. You love yourself and life more. You begin to resemble the perfect you that you really are.

15 Vivid dreams. Sometimes the dreams are so real that you wake up confused. You may even have lucid dreams in which you are in control. Many dreams may be mystical or carry messages for you. And in some dreams, you just know that you are not "dreaming" -- that what is happening is somehow real. Advice: You will remember what is important for you to remember. Don't force anything. Above all, stay out of fear.

16 Events that completely alter your life: death, divorce, change in job status, loss of home, illness, and/or other catastrophes -- sometimes several at once! Forces that cause you to slow down, simplify, change, re-examine who you are and what your life means to you. Forces that you cannot ignore. Forces that cause you release your attachments. Forces that awaken your sense of love and compassion for all.

17 A desire to break free from restrictive patterns, life-draining jobs consumptive lifestyles, and toxic people or situations. You feel a compelling need to "find yourself" and your life purpose -- now! You want to be creative and free to be who you really are. You might find yourself drawn to the arts and nature. You want to unclutter yourself from things and people that no longer serve you. Advice: Do it!

18 Emotional and mental confusion: A feeling that you need to get your life straightened out--it feels like a mess. But at the same time you feel chaotic and unable to focus. See #45. Advice: Put your ear to your heart and your own discernment will follow.

19 Introspection, solitude and loss of interest in more extroverted activities: This stage has come as a surprise to many extroverts who formerly saw themselves as outgoing and involved. They say, "I don't know why, but I don't like to go out as much as before."

20 Creativity bursts: Receiving images, ideas, music, and other creative inspirations at an often overwhelming rate. Advice: At least record these inspirations, for Spirit is speaking to you about how you might fulfill your purpose and contribute to the healing of the planet.

21 A perception that time is accelerating. It seems that way because you have had so many changes introduced into your life at an unprecedented rate. The number of changes seems to be growing. Advice: Breaking your day up into appointments and time segments increases the sense of acceleration .You can slow time down by relaxing into the present moment and paying attention to what's at hand, not anticipating what's ahead. Slow down and tell yourself that you have plenty of time. Ask your Higher Power to help you. Keep your focus on the present. Try to flow from one activity to the next. Stay tuned to your inner guidance. You can also warp time by asking for it. Next time you feel rushed, say, "Time warp, please. I need some more time to -----." Then relax.

22 A sense of impendingness. There is a feeling that something is about to happen. This can create anxiety. Advice: There is nothing to worry about. Things are definitely happening, but anxiety only creates more problems for you. All your thoughts -- positive or negative-- are prayers. There is nothing to fear.

23 Impatience. You know better, but sometimes you can't help it. You want to get on with what seems to be coming your way. Uncertainty is not comfortable. Advice: Learn to live with the uncertainty, knowing that nothing comes to you until you are ready. Impatience is really a lack of trust, especially trust in your Higher Power. When you focus on the present, you will experience miracles -- yes, even in traffic.

24 A deep yearning for meaning, purpose, spiritual connection, and revelation. Perhaps an interest in the spiritual for the first time in your life. "Constant craving", as k.d. lang says. The material world cannot fulfill this longing. Advice: Follow your heart and the way will open up for you.

25 A feeling that you are somehow different. A disquieting sense that everything in your life feels new and altered, that you have left your old self behind. You have. You are much greater than you can possibly imagine. There is more to come.

26 "Teachers" appear everywhere with perfect timing to help you on your spiritual journey: people, books, movies, events, Mother Nature, etc. Teachers may appear to be negative or positive when you are trapped in polarity thinking, but, from a transcendent perspective, they are always perfect. Just what you need to learn from and move on. By the way, we never get more than we are ready to master. Each challenge presents us with an opportunity to show our mastery in passing through it.

27 You find a spiritual track that makes sense to you and "speaks to you" at the most profound levels. Suddenly you are gaining a perspective that you would never have considered before. You hunger to know more. You read, share with others, ask questions, and go inside to discover more about who you are and why you are here

28 You are moving through learning and personal issues at a rapid pace. You sense that you are "getting it" quite readily. Advice: Keep remembering that things will come to you when they are ready to be healed. Not sooner. Deal with whatever comes up with courage and you will move through the issues rapidly.

29 Invisible presences. Here is the woo-woo stuff. Some people report feeling surrounded by beings at night or having the sensation of being touched or talked to. Often they will wake with a start. Some also feel their body orbed vibrate. The vibrations are caused by energetic changes after emotional clearing has taken place. Advice: This is a sensitive topic, but you may feel better blessing your bed and space around it before you sleep. I rest assured that I am surrounded only by the most magnificent spiritual entities and am always safe in God's care. Sometimes, however, the fear gets to me, and I call in Archangel Michael and/or Archangel Uriel. I don't beat myself up for being afraid sometimes. I forgive myself for not always sovereign at 3:00 a.m.

30 Portents, visions, "illusions", numbers, and symbols: Seeing things that have spiritual importance for you. Noticing how numbers appear synchronistically in your awareness. Everything has a message if you take the time to look. I enjoy the experience of "getting the messages." What fun!

31 Increased integrity: You realize that it is time for you to seek and speak your truth. It suddenly seems important for you to become more authentic, more yourself. You may have to say "no" to people whom you have tried to please in the past. You may find it intolerable to stay in a marriage or job or place that doesn't support who you are. You may also find there is nowhere to hide, no secrets to keep anymore. Honesty becomes important in all your relationships. Advice: Listen to your heart. If your guidance tells you not to do something, speak up and take action. Say "no". Likewise, you must also say "yes" to that which compels you. You must risk displeasing others without guilt in order to attain spiritual sovereignty.

32 Harmony with seasons and cycles: You are becoming more tuned to the seasons, the phases of the moon and natural cycles. More awareness of your place in the natural world. A stronger connection to the earth.

33 Electrical and mechanical malfunctions: When you are around, lightbulbs flicker, the computer locks up, or the radio goes haywire. Advice: Call on your angels, guides, or Grace Elohim to fix it or put up a field of protection of light around the machine. Surround your car with bluelight. Laugh.

34 Increased synchronicity and many small miracles. Look for more of these. Advice: Synchronistic events tell you if you are heading in the right direction or making the correct choices. Honor these clues and you cannot go astray. Spirit uses synchronicity to communicate to you. That's when you begin to experience daily miracles. See #30.

35 Increased intuitive abilities and altered states of consciousness: Thinking of someone and immediately hearing from them. More synchronicities. Having sudden insights about patterns or events from the past. Clairvoyance, out-of-body experiences, and other psychic phenomena. Intensified sensitivity and knowing. Awareness of one's essence and that of others. Channeling angelic and Christ-consciousness energies.

36 Communication with Spirit. Contact with angels, spirit guides, and other divine entities. Channeling. More and more people seem to be given this opportunity. Feeling inspiration and downloading information that takes form as writing, painting, ideas, communications, dance, etc.

37 A sense of Oneness with all. A direct experience of this Wholeness. Transcendent awareness. Being flooded with compassion and love for all life. Compassionate detachment or unconditional love for all is what lifts us up to higher levels of consciousness and joy.

38 Moments of joy and bliss. A deep abiding sense of peace and knowing that you are never alone.

39 Integration: You become emotionally, psychologically, physically, and spiritually stronger and clearer. You feel as if you are in alignment with your Higher Self.

40 Living your purpose: You know you are finally doing what you came to earth for. New skills and gifts are emerging, especially healing ones. Your life/work experiences are now converging and starting to make sense. You are finally going to use them all. Advice: Listen to your heart. Your passion leads you to where you must go. Go within and ask your Higher Power, "What is it you would have me do?" Watch for synchronicities. Listen.

41 Feeling closer to animals and plants. To some people, animals now seem to be more "human" in their behavior. Wild animals are less afraid. Plants respond to your love and attention more than ever. Some may even have messages for you.

42 Seeing beings of other dimensions. The veil between dimensions is thinner, so it is not surprising. Just stay in your sovereignty. You are more powerful than you can ever imagine, so do not entertain fear. Ask your guides for help if you slip into fear.

43 Seeing a person's true form or seeing loved ones with a different face -- past life or parallel life.

44 Physically manifesting thoughts and desires more quickly and efficiently. Advice: Monitor your thoughts. All thoughts are prayers. Be careful what you ask for.

45 Left -brain fogginess. Your psychic abilities, your intuitive knowing, your feeling and compassion, your ability to experience your body, your visioning, your expressiveness all emanate from the right brain. In order for this side of the brain to develop more fully, the left brain must shut down a little bit. Normally the left-hemisphere's capacity for order, organization, structure, linear sequencing, analysis, evaluation, precision, focus, problem-solving, and mathematics dominate our often less-valued right brain. What results are memory lapses, placing words in the wrong sequence, inability or no desire to read for very long, inability to focus; forgetting what you are just about to say; impatience with linear forms of communication (audio or written formats); a feeling of spaciness, being scattered; losing interesting research or complex information; feeling bombarded with words and talk and information; and a reluctance to write. Sometimes you feel dull and have no interest in analysis, lively intellectual discussion, or investigation. On the other hand, you might find yourself drawn to the sensate: videos, magazines with photos, beautiful artwork, movies, music, sculpting, painting, being with people, dancing, gardening, walking, and other kinesthetic forms of expression. You may search for spiritual content, even science fiction. Advice: You may discover that if you allow your heart and your right brain to lead you, the left will then be activated appropriately to support you. And someday we will be well-balanced, using both hemispheres with mastery.

46 Dizziness. This occurs when you are ungrounded. Perhaps you have just cleared a big emotional issue and your body is adjusting to your "lighter" state. Advice: Ground yourself by eating protein. Sometimes "comfort food" feels right. Don't make any food right or wrong for you. Use your guidance to know what you need at any given moment. Take your shoes off and put your feet in the grass for a couple of minutes.

47 Falling, having accidents, breaking bones. Your body is not grounded or perhaps your life is out of balance. Or your body may be telling you to slow down, examine certain aspects of your life, or heal certain issues. There is always a message. When I recently broke my ankle, I understand that my ankle was taking on what I myself refused to deal with. And that was all of the above. Advice: Stay grounded by taking your shoes off and putting your feet in the grass; even better, lie down on the grass without a blanket under you. Feel the earth beneath you. Get out in nature. Slow down and pay attention. Be mindful about what you are doing. Feel your feelings when they come up. Stay in the present. Surround yourself with blue light when you are feeling shaky.

48 Heart palpitations. A racing heart usually accompanies a heart opening. It only lasts for a few moments and means that the heart is re-balancing itself after an emotional release. I had one episode that terrified me: I woke up in the middle of the night, my heart pounding. I thought it was going to come right out of my chest. It only happened once and was, I understand, a huge heart-chakra opening. But I did check it out. There is nothing wrong with my heart. Advice: Remember what I said about getting medical attention when needed. Consult your doctor about any conditions you are not comfortable with.

49 Faster hair and nail growth. More protein is being used in the body. Too bad we can't tell the body where to grow the hair and where not to grow it. (Or can we? Hmmm.)

50 A desire to find your soulmate or twin flame. More than ever before, the idea that we can have a relationship that matches who we are seems more desirable. Advice: The truth is, we have to be the kind of person we want to attract. We have to love ourselves and where we are right now before we can attract a more "perfect" mate. The work begins at home. Here is how I think it works: Hold the desire for this person in your heart, but without attachment. Expect that someday you will meet someone who is more suited to you, but let go of any expectations as to who this will be and how it will happen. Focus instead on cleaning up your own life and being the kind of person you want to be. Be happy now. Enjoy your life. Then you may see.....

51 Memories surface. Body memories, suppressed memories, images of past lives and/or parallel lives. We are healing and integrating all our "selves", so expect to have some of these experiences. Advice. Keep in mind that it is best to recall what only what comes to mind, leave the rest alone, don't analyze everything to death (because you will be stuck in the tape loop of infinite issues to process), and feel your feelings as they come up. Ask for help from your guides.
